Subject v object questions

Object questions
1. We use do / does in present simple questions:
Ex. Who do you know?
Where does he live?
2. We use did in past simple questions:
Ex. Who did you call?
What did he give you for your birthday?

3. We change the word order when using the auxiliary


verbs (be, have in present perfect, modal verbs):
Ex. When was the car washed?

Sometimes happens that the question words Who?

What? Which? How many? are the subject of the


clause
Then we do not use do, does, or did in questions
The verb is in the 3rd person singular of the particular
tense
Ex. Who hit you?
