designation for flexible-to-flexible contact analyses

Solve a nonlinear contact analysis and determine which
contact-target designation is appropriate

Open (or read in) the input file named BNL_W07C_contact-target.inp:


Use the GUI menu method:

Select the Open ANSYS File ICON

Select the file BNL_W07C_contact-target.inp

Click OK

Or Command Input Method:

/INPUT, BNL_W17_contact-target.inp

Note: This file consists of APDL input which


will automatically erase the current database
from previous session, change the jobname to
W07C-BNL. It will then generate the
geometry, including the contact pairs, define
the materials and apply boundary conditions to
begin the current exercise.

Solve the contact interference analysis:

Main Menu > Solution > Solve > Current LS

[OK]
OR enter the following commands:

Why wasnt contact detected for contact pair #1?
Contact is detected when a Gauss point penetrates the TARGET surface.
The Gauss points are always located on the CONTACT surface.
The CONTACT surface Gauss points are located as pictured below (denoted by an X).

For contact pair #1, the TARGET surface


has penetrated the CONTACT surface
in between the Gauss points!
