Twelve-year-old Dhaka school-going
Tahmid is addicted to Fast food. In fact, like
countless children across the city, he hates
homemade food, and throws a temper
tantrum if his mother puts fruits and
vegetables on his plat
Recently, Tahmid has been diagnosed as ‘overweight’
with a likelihood of developing high blood pressure and
heart disease by the time he is in his late thirties. At 45
kilogram's, he is already sluggish in his movement,
his school grades are unremarkable and he has few
friends, and five minutes of running around with the
other children in his apartment complex often has him
wheezing to catch his breath.
What is Fast Food
Fast food is the term given to food that can be
prepared and served very quickly. While any
meal with low preparation time can be
considered to be fast food, typically the term
refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with
low quality preparation and served to the
customer in a packaged form.
Scenario in Bangladesh
Fast Food is the centre of our lives. For Bangladeshis
it is the core of all functions, the highlight of the joy of
any celebration, and the reward for attending a
ceremony. There is no doubt that we take our food very
seriously. But are we thinking about what we eat as
opposed to what our taste buds crave for? Not really, at
least not very often. This is why we are wreaking havoc
with our bodies.
Statistics Shows
A recent study of middle and upper income
families in Dhaka reveals that one of every
four children are overweight, headed towards
obesity, and vulnerable to fatal illnesses as a
result of their unhealthy eating habits.
Statistics Shows
The multinational companies of the world
expended US $13.7 billion for marketing their
junk foods and soft drinks in 2009 while the
total five-year budget of Bangladesh health
sector is only US $ 3.8 billion.
Bad effect of eating fast food
 Fast food has a very high energy density. About 65 percent higher
than a typical diet and twice as high as recommended healthy
diets which makes us eat more than we otherwise would.
 British researchers from the Medical Research Council Human
Nutrition Center and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine have determined that repeated eating at McDonald's or
KFC or Burger King, people are more likely to gain weight and
become obese.
Bad effect of eating fast food
 By eating a Big Mac and fries, the body consumes almost
twice as many calories as you would if you ate the same
weight of pasta and salad.

 Fast food meal contains many more calories than a

similar sized portion of a healthy meal. The conclusion is
we are all being fooled into eating too much food.
Bad effect of eating fast food
 Another fact is that fast food may speed up
people's risk of clogged arteries that can lead
to heart attacks. Researchers at the Veterans
Administration Medical Center in San
Francisco have demonstrated that a certain
type of fat, called oxidized fat, can accelerate
the buildup of plaque in arteries.
Recommendation
At last I want to say that, We have to Create
mass awareness against fast food side by side,
we need to raise voice against eating fast food,
and we should follow a healthy diet plan.
