Key duties/responsibilities for financial counselor

1. Identifying immediate and long range measures to increase income, reduce
household expenditures, and avoid additional financial burdens.
2. Personal budget/financial planning to reduce, eliminate, and avoid debt and
to achieve solvency and stability.
3. Teaching Service members (and their families) money management
techniques to encourage them to live within their means.
4. Understanding credit, finance charges, interest rates and the implications of
only paying the minimum amount each month.
5. Educating military families on the importance of maintaining excellent
credit histories and ratings.
6. Establishing, monitoring, and protecting their credit.
7. Teaching Service members to make informed decisions and to be aware of
associated costs such as insurance, maintenance, fuel costs, etc.
8. Assisting with tax planning.
9. Teaching Service members and their families how to save for emergencies,
unanticipated contingencies, and both short and long-term goals.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Key job qualifications for financial counselor

1. 1-2 years demonstrated knowledge of healthcare billing and third party
payer requirements. Experience in a hospital or clinic environment working
with third party payers, billing, and medical terminology preferred
2. EPIC registration experience preferred
3. Excellent Microsoft excel and work skills
4. Previous customer service background required
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to handle multiple
priorities/tasks and to follow-up through to completion
6. Must be committed to continuous improvement, accountability and
customer service
7. Must have aptitude for solving problems and making decisions
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
9. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
10. Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
11. Fluent in a second language preferable such as Chinese, Portugese,
Spanish, French or Arabic.
