BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Existing Pfnder Tunnel constructed 1974 and 1980 to bypass Bregenz.
Key component of A14 Rhine Valley Highway and European road network
2nd Tube required due to increasing traffic and stricter safety standards.
6.6 km new 2nd tube excavated by TBM 12.5 m.
Geology: Molasse: conglomerates, sandstone, shale, claystone
Double-shell lining with a backfilled, non-watertight segmental lining
waterproofing membrane between segments and cast-in-place lining
15 cross-passages between the tunnel tubes, 7 lay-bys
Rehabilitation of existing tube

Massenberg Tunnel: Twin-tube, 460 m long; rehabilitation of the inner-lining
