SWOT
Analysis of Production Engineering
Department

Department of Production Engineering; DJSCOE

Strength
1) Established in 1994 since inception of the college; Has a
strong base
2) Qualified & committed staff with a length of working
experience in Academics as well as in Industry
3) Major contribution in F.E. course; Sharing responsibility
of teaching many core Engineering subjects
4) Excellent Hardware & Software support.
5) Consistent performance of students in Academics; Cocurricular & Cultural areas
6) Introduction & execution of P.G. course for last two years
7) Striving efforts by faculty & students to carry out events
beyond syllabus
8) Working systems are in place & updated from time to time
to cater to the needs of the department
9) 30 Students intake. Enables better one to one interaction
and personal contact

Weakness
1) Few Laboratories need restructuring from the point of
availability of sophisticated equipments
2) Channelized efforts required to attract students of high
caliber.
3) Limited thrust on Research & Consultation work by faculty.

Opportunities

4)

1)
2)

3)

Identifying scope for consultancy work by extending Inplant trainees work into industrial projects.
Industry Institute Interaction by Industry visits, seminars,
Exhibitions for the continuous development of the
department & self development.
Organizing training programmes for personnel from
Industry.

Threats
1)
2)

3)

High turnover of students on entry to the course, trying to

switch over to software oriented Courses.
High involvement of faculty in F.E. & in programmes of
other discipline affects the focus on the departmental
activities.
Limited in-take of students (30 seats) , their involvement in
departmental extra & co-curricular activities is less.
Students are more interested in professional bodies under
other departments such as ACM, IETE & IEEE than ISME,
a professional body associated with the department.

PROCESS OF FEEDBACK
In our college feedback system exists at the
departmental level.
A teacher who is not attached to a particular class,
distributes and collects the forms back
Students give independent grading to various
attributes pertaining to Theory and Practicals based
on the course requirements.
Faculty wise feed back ratings are compiled.

Department of
Production Engineering;
DJSCOE

CORRECTIVE ACTION BASED

ON FEEDBACK
A meeting is arranged with the respective faculty
along with V.P. Academics to discuss the strengths &
weaknesses of the faculty as indicated in the feed
back form.
Opportunities are created for the staff to attend
STTPs Industrial visits, Lecture talks from Industry
experts on current developments, visits to Technical
exhibitions, Software training programmes.
