DDOT has care and control of the public space in the District (UFAWard 5 arborist will attend Tunnel Forum meetings)

Status of Tunnel Boring Machine


The First Street Project Tunnel
Boring Machine (TBM) was
recently refurbished in Germany
The 23-foot-diameter TBM will be
shipped and will start to arrive in
DC later this month
The TBM will be assembled at the
Channing Street Construction
Staging Area and will be in use
through 2015

COMMUNITY MITIGATION MEASURES

Shuttle Service
Shuttle service commenced in late
April 2014
Due to low ridership, we will eliminate
a van at the end of January
We will eliminate the second shuttle in
March 2015
No longer an effective use of
ratepayer dollars

Shuttle service will be suspended in March


of 2015.

Community requested tree planting plan
DC Water will provide funds to DDOT
DDOT will work with community members to coordinate plan

Security and Safety within


Construction Staging Areas
The Construction Staging Areas (CSAs) house large trucks,
construction equipment and tools, and have deep, open
excavations
The CSAs are closed to the public
Security personnel are onsite during off hours
SKJD has installed security lighting and will install additional
cameras

To better ensure your safety and the safety


of your children and pets, do not enter a
Construction Staging Area.
