(JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS)

Step 1: General Planning


HAZARDS:
1.1 Inadequate training, consultation, planning&
improvisation.
Controls :
1.1.1 Ensure employees are adequately
trained to complete the job required.
1.1.2 Provide adequate and competent
supervision.
1.1.3 Provide correct equipment to ensure job
is
completed safely.

STEP 2: Arriving to job


site.
HAZARDS:
1.1 Entry to safe unauthorized
areas.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Report to site office for site
induction.
1.1.2 Risk assessment of site conditions.

STEP 3: Unloading of
equipment.
HAZARDS:
1.1 Fall from vehicle, manual handling
injuries, traffic hazards, unfamiliar worksite,
trips & slips.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Unload vehicles in area clear of traffic,
plant & equipment.
1.1.2 Training employees in manual handling.
1.1.3 P.P.E equipment such as (fluorescent)
vest.

STEP 3: Unloading of
equipment.
HAZARDS:
1.1 Fall from vehicle, manual handling injuries,
traffic hazards, unfamiliar worksite, trips & slips.
CONTROLS:
1.1.4 Use team lifting techniques or mechanical
means for manual handling.
1.1.5 Conduct a thorough site inspection before
commencing any work to identify potential
causes .hazards.
1.1.6 Ensure work trucks or vans are parked
appropriately.

STEP 4: Internal drainage.


HAZARDS:
1.1 Trips, slips & falls.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Ensure clear access to work area.
1.1.2 Ensure trenches have been filled or fall
protection and barricades are in place. Avoid
rough terrain.
1.1.3 Training employees in manual handling.
1.1.4 Training in manual handling and the use
of shovels and wheelbarrows.

STEP

5:Installation of internal
water service and
drainage.

HAZARDS:
1.1 Trips, slips & falls when carrying in
materials.
1.2 Trips, slips and falls when entering job.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Ensure access and entry is clearly
defined and clear of debris. Avoid rough
terrain. Ensure trenches have been filled or
fall protection and barricades are in place.
1.1.2 Ensure clear and defined egress into
job.

equipment. Use P.P.E equipment such as
fluorescent vests, Hard hats, safety

HAZARDS:
1.1 Falls from ladders or through voids
when accessing first floor.
CONTROLS:

portable ladders.
1.1.2 Ensure stair void protection is in
place and secure.
1.1.3 All ladders should be adequately
supported at the base and tide at the top.

1.1.4 Set ladder at a slope of


approximately 4 in 1.
1.1.5 Ladder must be extended past
landing by 1.0m.

HAZARDS:
1.1 Trips, falls when setting up extension
leads
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Training in the set up and running of
extension leads.

HAZARDS:
1.1 Cuts, abrasions, splinter, eye, ear
damage when cutting and installing
support trimmers.
1.2 Injuries from nail guns. Injury from
power tools.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Training in the use of P.P.E
equipment such as gloves, safety glasses,
ear and foot protection when required.

1.1.2 Keep hands and limbs out of range.


1.1.3 Train and provide correct P.P.E
equipment for the required task.
1.1.4 Training in the use of power tools.

HAZARDS:
1.5 Electrocution & electric shock
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Electrical test, tagging and register
of all power tools and equipment.
1.1.2 Ensure earth leakage switch is
installed on main supply or portable
generators.
1.1.3 Maintain and service all equipment.

HAZARDS:
1.6 Contact with substances classified as
hazardous. Short & long-term health
affects eg overcome by vapours, rash
allergy and disease.
CONTROLS:
1.6.1 Provide Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS).
1.6.2 Provide training in the use of
hazardous substances and P.P.E
equipment required

STEP 6: In stallation of internal


water service and
drainage cont.,
HAZARDS:
1.1 Burns, sparks hitting eyes, explosion
and fire when using Oxy Acetylene.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Gloves to be worn, high visibility
vests to be removed prior to using oxy
acetylene as the vests are highly
flammable.
1.1.2 Training in the correct use of P.P.E
equipment such as eye protection.

1.1.3 All oxy equipment to have flashback arrestors fitted.


1.1.4 Fire extinguisher to be available.

HAZARDS:
1.2 Falls from climbing in and on frames
and trusses or from ladders
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 Training in the use of portable
ladders and working from heights.

HAZARDS:
1.3 Injuries from cutting and gluing
materials
CONTROLS:
1.3.1 Provide Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS).
1.3.2 Provide training in the use of
hazardous
substances and P.P.E equipment required.

STEP 7: Provide and wear correct P.P.E


equipment
required.
HAZARDS:
1.1 Cuts, abrasion, eye, ear and damage to
feet, overcome by vapours.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Provide MSDS.
1.1.2Provide training in the use of hazardous
substances and P.P.E equipment required.
1.1.3Provide and wear correct P.P.E equipment
such as ear, eye and safety footwear.

HAZARDS:
1.2 Slips & trips when moving around the
site.
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 Ensure trenches have been filled or
fall protection and barricades are in
place.
1.2.2 Ensure work area is clear of waste
materials, avoid rough terrain.

STEP 8: Installation of
Downpipe
HAZARDS:
1.1 Falls when installing.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Training in the use and set-up of
portable ladders.
1.1.2 Training employees in working at
heights.

HAZARDS:
1.2 Sunburn
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 Use PPE equipment such as hats,
protective clothing, sun creams.

1.3 Manual handling injuries.
CONTROLS:
1.3.1 Training in manual handling

HAZARDS:
1.4 Electrocution.
CONTROLS:
1.4.1 Electrical test, tagging and register
of all power tools and equipment.

STEP 9: Fitting off PC items &


Appliances.
HAZARDS:
1.1 Manual handling injuries from lifting
materials.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Training in manual handling.
1.1.2 Use team lifting techniques or
mechanical means for manual handling.

HAZARDS:
1.2 Cuts, abrasions, eye, earand damage
to feet, overcome by vapours. Contact
with substances classified as hazardous.
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 Provide Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS).
1.2.2 Provide training in the use of
hazardous substances and P.P.E required.

1.3 Slips, trips & falls when carrying tools and
materials.
CONTROLS:
1.3.1 Ensure clear access to work area.

1.3.3Stack materials neatly and clear of work
areas.

STEP 10: Fitting off PC items &


Appliances
HAZARDS:
1.1 Slip, trips & falls due to insufficient
lighting.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Ensure adequate lighting is
provided especially in basement and
other enclosed areas.

HAZARDS:
1.2 Lack of adequate ventilation in roof or
floor cavity illness, breathing difficulties,
being overcome by fumes, dust particles.
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 Ensure adequate ventilation of work
area. Do not allow fuelled equipment to
continuously run in the immediate vicinity of
the work area.
1.2.2 Ensure all employees are properly
advised and trained

STEP 11: In stallation of External


Drainage & Sewer
HAZARDS:
1.1 Personnel hit by road traffic, on site plant and
equipment
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Unload vehicles in area clear of traffic, plant and
equipment.
1.1.2 Ensure workers are supervised when unloading
plant, equipment and materials.
1.1.3 Ensure hazard signage is available for all workers
to display.
1.1.4 Only suitably trained personnel to work with plant.
1.1.5 Plant & equipment to be registered and
maintained.
1.1.6 P.P.E equipment such as (fluorescent) vest.
1.1.7 Plant operator to be aware of site personnel

HAZARDS:
1.2 Hit by plant and equipment when
excavating trenches backfilling and
installation of pips.
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 P.P.E equipment such as
(fluorescent) vest. Plant operator to be
aware of site personnel.

STEP 12: In stallation of External


Drainage & Sewer
HAZARDS:
1.1 Tripping, falling into open trenches.
Collapse / Entrapment.
CONTROLS:
1.1.1 Training employees in excavation
works. Ensure trenches have been filled or
fall protection and barricades are in place.
Avoid rough terrain. Induction / awareness,
bench and shore trenches if required.
1.1.2 Ensure position of hole is clearly
marked.

HAZARDS:
1.2 Contact with substances classified as
hazardous.
CONTROLS:
1.2.1 Provide Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS).
1.2.2Provide training in the use of hazardous
substances and P.P.E equipment required.
1.2.3Provide and wear correct P.P.E
equipment required.

HAZARDS:
1.3 Manual handling injuries while using
shovels and wheelbarrows.
CONTROLS:
1.3.1 Manual handling training in using
shovels and wheelbarrows.

HAZARDS:
1.4 Injury from hitting underground
services such as gas, electricity and
water mains.
CONTROLS:
1.4.1 Seek instruction from site
management; utilize Dial before you dig
where necessary.
1.4.2Prepare emergency plan in event of
accident.
