AIM OF THE PROJECT

Constructing a robot that has the ability to scan the entire


landscape

While doing so, it should help us in preparing a virtual blue print of


the area so that security personnel can be absolutely sure that the
whole place has been scanned.

The robot should be combat oriented

It should be designed to reduce casualties

EXISTING PROBLEMS

The surveillance of the target area is done by the soldiers.

There is a risk of life for the soldiers during war period.

Sometimes the nature presents abrasive conditions intolerable for


humans

PROPOSED SYSTEMS

In the proposed system, the robot is implemented with a complete


surveillance system, in addition to a smoke detector and a laser
gun

The target area can be monitored from the control room itself.

If any presence of the enemy is detected, then possible offensive


measures can be taken from the control room.

ARDUINO :-which controls all the devices and digitize the signals.

GAS SENSOR:-which detects the poisonous and harmful gases .

RF TRANSCEIVER:-which sends and receive data between


robotic module and control unit.

MOTOR DRIVES:-which gives power to the motor.


USB INTERFACING CIRCUIT:-the RF transceiver and PC are of
different logics so we need a interfacing circuit.

ARDUINO
Arduino Uno with ATmega328 microcontroller is
used in this project.
The operating voltage of this controller is 5V.
Maximum clock frequency is 16MHz.
Embedded C is used for programming the
microcontroller.
Arduino IDE is used for the programming software

ARDUINO
It is a Open Source Hardware and a Open
Source Development Kit.
The Arduino Uno has a number of
facilities for communicating with a
computer, another Arduino, or other
microcontrollers.
TheATmega328provides UART TTL (5V)
serial communication, which is available
on digital pins 0 (RX) and 1 (TX).

RF MODULE USED IN PROJECT


The Module used in the project is a TARANG module
It is manufactured by Digi International
It works at 3.3V DC
The RF output power is 1mW
The TARANG module is UART compatible and hence can
be connected to a microcontroller or a PC.
Range: Indoor/Urban: up to 100 (30 m)
Outdoor line-of-sight: up to 300 (100 m)

GAS SENSORS
MQ-5 is used for combustible gas detection.
Can detect the presence and concentration of
gases like methane, propane and butane.
The sensing element used is SnO2.
Resistance of SnO2 varies in the presence of gases.
It is a six pin device, with a integrated heating coil.
Sensitivity of SnO2 is greater at higher
temperatures.
The supply voltage is 5V DC.
The output voltage proportional to the gas
concentration is an analog voltage and is given to
the ADC.

MOTOR DRIVE
The project uses DC motors for robot.
DC motors have polarity and direction of rotation
depends on direction of current.
Hence for bi-directional motor rotation a H bridge
drive is used.
H Bridge drives is a circuit configuration using
which direction of current can be changed using
control signals.
The project uses IC L293 for implementing H
bridge drive.
Each L293 capable of two full H bridges.

USB INTERFACE
The USB port of the computer is used for

communication with arduino


The microcontroller uses UART-serial
Communication.
Hence an interfacing circuit using FTDX chip is
built to convert USB signals into UART signals and
vise versa.
It enables full duplex communications, while
doing the necessary voltage conversions.
