FUTURE TENSE

SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
 We use the future tense for actions or events
that will be happen in the future.
 We use the future tense with will to make
predictions, to talk about actions which
we cannot control or to refer to
something which we decide to do at the
time of speaking.

Examples
 future action
 John will retire as a senior engineer with the
firm at the end of the year.
 prediction
 Asha will certainly win the beauty crown this
year. She is not only beautiful but has a dynamic
personality as well.
 intention to do something at the time of speaking
 I will explain it to you, John.

 We use the verb ‘to be’ + going to + base form
of verb for actions which we have already
planned to do in the future and for events in the
future.
 For actions which we had planned to do in the past
but which did not occur, we use was/were +
going to + base form of verb.

 Many industrial workers are going to lose

FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
 The future perfect tense talks about the past
in the future.
 The structure of the future perfect tense is:

subject + auxiliary + auxiliary + main verb

 In speaking with the future perfect tense, we often
contract the subject and will. Sometimes, we
contract the subject, will and have all together:

 The future perfect tense expresses action in the
future before another action in the future. This is
the past in the future. For example:
1.The train will leave the station at 9am. You will arrive
at the station at 9.15am. When you arrive, the
train will have left.
2.You can call me at work at 8am. I will have arrived
at the office by 8.
3.They will be tired when they arrive. They will not
have slept for a long time.
4."Mary won't be at home when you arrive."
"Really? Where will she have gone?"

FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE
 We use the future continuous tense to refer to
actions or situations which will be going on
at a certain time in the future.
 Example:
 They will be announcing the results of
the elections just after 6 a.m. tomorrow.
( in the future which have already planned)

 We use the future continuous tense to refer to
actions or situations in the future which have
already been planned or which take place
regularly.

 The models will be displaying the latest
in the summer collection at the international
show in Paris next week.
 regular action
 My whole family will be participating in
the cross-country run as we do every year.

FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS
 We use the future perfect continuous tense to
talk about a long action before some point in
the future.
o Examples :
 I will have been working here for ten years
next week.
 He will be tired when he arrives. He will have
been travelling for 24 hours.

The structure of the future perfect continuous tense
is:

Subject + auxiliary verb + auxiliary verb + auxiliary verb + main verb
