TECHNOLOGY

WEEK 1
HAIZUM
FARAH

-EXPLAIN WHAT IS MEANT BY

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY.
-SPECIFY THE ELEMENTS/KEY ELEMENTS IN
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY.
-DESCRIBE WHY EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY IS VITAL TO EVERY TEACHERS.

WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY?

Technology is the application of

knowledge, tools and skills to solve
practical problems and extend human
capabilities.

WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY?

is the development, deployment and evaluation

of systems, techniques and assistance in the
field of human learning. (Department of
Education and Science - UK).

Emphasizing the use of skills and modern

techniques to meet the training and education.
This included learning the manipulation of
materials and methods, and environmental
controls to this as a reflection of learning.
(Unwin, D., 1969)

is the application of scientific knowledge

about learning, and the learning to enhance
the effectiveness and efficiency of T&L.
(Hadden, E.H.)
emphasizes on providing the suitability of
the learning situation that has been brought
up by the handle of an objective view of
teaching or training brings such great
significance. (Richmond, W.K., 1979).

Educational technology is an integrated,

experienced-based instructional program designed
to prepare students to be knowledgeable about
technology
Which include its evolution, systems, techniques,
uses and social and cultural significance.
It results in the application of mathematics and
science concepts to solve practical problems and
extend human capabilities.
Students are challenged to discover, create, solve
problems and construct solutions by using variety of
tools, machines, computer systems, materials
process, and technological systems.

ELEMENTS/KEY ELEMENTS IN
EDUCATIONAL EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY

teaching process based on classroom situations

, stages of teaching, theory, operating principles
and strengthen the relationship between theory
and principle of operation of teaching.

Be classed as a concept to 4 components:

a) Manpower
b) Methods
c) Materials
d) Media

1.
2.
3.

Can be classified in three main areas.

Generally related to the administration
of education.
With educational testing
The process of teaching.

MODELS OF TEACHING
Model RP Dick &
Carey (pedestal
system)

1. Know teaching objectives

2. Make teaching analysis
3. Know for sure characteristics and
treatment of incoming students ranked
4. Objective achievement Write
5. Fostering items reference exam
criteria
6. Fostering teaching strategies
7. Fostering or select instructional
materials
8. Formative Assessment
9. recheck original teaching.

ASSURE Model
RP
(CLASSROOM)

A - Analyse learner (student Analysis)

S - State objectives (objective State)
S - Select, modify
U - Use of media (media use)
R - Require learner response
E - Evaluate materials

CLASSIFICATION OF TECHNOLOGY
EDUCATION

1. Mackenzie (1980); define equipment

by:

TV, audio-visual materials.

responsive equipment including teaching
machine
Equipment 'Reprographic' like
computers and learning materials/
programs.

2. Percibal &Ellington (1984) classify the

tecniques:

Mass teaching
Individual teaching

WHY IS EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY IMPORTANT
TO TEACHERS?
Teachers can collaborate to share their ideas
and resources online:
-They can communicate with others across the world
in an instant, meet the shortcomings of their work,
refine it and provide their students with the best. This
approach definitely enhances the practice of teaching.
Students can develop valuable research skills at
a young age:
-Technology gives students immediate access to an
abundance of quality information which leads to
learning at much quicker rates than before.

Students and teachers have access to an

expanse of material:
-There are plenty of resourceful, credible websites
available on the Internet that both teachers and
students can utilize. The Internet also provides a
variety of knowledge and doesnt limit students to
one persons opinion.
Online learning is now an equally credible
option:
-Face-to-face interaction is huge, especially in the
younger years, but some students work better
when they can go at their own pace.

Easy-to-access course materials.

-Teachers can post their course material or important
information on a course website, which means students can
study at a time and location they prefer and can obtain the
study material very quickly.
Student motivation.
-Teachers must be aware of their students' motivators in order
to successfully implement technology into the classroom.
Students are more motivated to learn when they are interested
in the subject matter, which can be enhanced by using
technologies in the classroom.
More opportunities for extended learning.
-This allows students to access course material at home and
engage with the numerous online resources available to them.
