Current State: – Town Tree Safety
Program
 Local sites determine safety regulations and
policies to adhere to
 Many sites are using outdated or sub-standard
felling equipment
 New hire safety training varies from site to site,
translating into variations in training quality
and effectiveness
 Two accidents involving property damage in 1st
quarter of 2007. If this trend continues, Town
Tree will average 8 major accidents a year – the
highest accident rate in the industry

Future State: – Town Tree Safety Program
 All employees following standard safety
operating procedures, that reflect adherence to
the highest U.S. standard
 Every worker has access to state-of-the-art
safety equipment and has been trained by a
professional safety training firm – ensures
consistent high quality training
 Implementation of a Safety program that will
help Town Tree obtain it’s goal of no major
accidents per year!

Goal and Deliverables

Goal: To develop and implement a ‘best in class’ safety


program that supports business objectives.

Project Deliverables:
 Identify world-class training safety organization and Safety
Consultant to partner with
 Develop and conduct safety training with employees and
managers across all Town Tree sites
 Create and distribute a comprehensive safety manual to every
employee
 Launch a public awareness campaign around Town Tree’s new
Safety program. Kick off at annual Plant-a-tree event.

 Decrease the number of accidents resulting in less $$
paid out to settle claims
 Demonstrate to the public and Safety Officials that Town
Tree takes public and employee safety seriously and is
taking immediate action to correct unsafe practices
 Help decrease worker turnover and worker compensation
claims, because work environment will be safer

 Long Term Benefits:


 Lower insurance rates after a one period of reduction in
the number of insurance claims filed against Town Tree
 Customers and public will regain confidence, resulting in
more business/revenue
