ICF BOGIE

Bogie What?
It is an independent unit used under a long
vehicle, usually mounted on two pairs of
wheels (except some special purpose stocks).
Each bogie is provided with a bolster for
engagement with its male counterpart
provided underneath the vehicle under
frame.
The bogie trucks can swivel and adjust its
position with case and without restraining the
vehicle body while negotiating a curved
track.

Factors for Designing A

Bogie
Sturdy construction to with stand vertical,
longitudinal and lateral shocks.
Suitable suspension gear.
Satisfactory damping devices.
Sturdy running gears to give trouble free service.
Easy negotiability on curved track without
restraining body structure.

Construction of coaching
stock
Shell i.e. the skeleton part.
Furnishing i.e. the provisions of amenities.
Bogie (trolley) with the running gear.
Safety, speed as well as comfort mainly depend
on the bogie on which the coach is placed.

Bogie Mounted Brake

system for ICF Coaches

Introduction
In

the

under

frame

mounted

brake

gear

arrangement, there are 51 pin joints per bogie in

the system. To reduce the number of pin joints,
levers, pull rods and push rods, bogie mounted
brake system for mainline coaches have become a
viable alternative.

Bogie Mounted Brake Cylinders

If the clearance between wheel and the brake blocks is

less due to any reason, it does not bring the required
clearance automatically.

Pawl Housing Ring

The pawl-housing ring is pivoted with the pivot

pin of trunion body at one end and the other
end of the pawl housing ring moves/turns
freely.
A spring-loaded pawl is housed at the free end
of the pawl housing. At the bottom of the pawl
housing a spring loaded plunger / sleeve is
kept between the trunion body and the pawl
housing to move the pawl housing
upward/outwards during forward stroke

General Working of Bogie Mounted

Brake Gear System
There is no change in the overall brake system
in bogie- mounted arrangement up to the
action of distributor valve.
Here the system will respond to action on A-9
valve in similar fashion as in the case of
standard air brake system.
