COMPARSON OF INDIAN NAVYS P- 8I WITH

PAKISTAN NAVYS P-3C ORION

Introduction
P 8I

The P-8I is a long-range anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface

warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft
capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations.
The P-8I is a variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing is
developing for the U.S. Navy.

P 3C

The Lockheed P-3 Orion is a four-engine turboprop anti-submarine

and maritime surveillance aircraft developed for the United States
Navy and introduced in the 1960s.

Lockheed based it on the L-188 Electra commercial airliner.

The aircraft is easily distinguished from the Electra by its distinctive

tail stinger or "MAD Boom", used for the magnetic detection of
submarines.

P 8I

The aircraft design is based on the proven fuselage of the 737800 and the wings of the 737-900.

The P-8A aircraft has increased gross weight capability

compared to the 737-800.

The P-3 has an internal bomb bay under the front fuselage which
can house conventional Mark 50 torpedoes or Mark 46 torpedoes
and/or special (nuclear) weapons.

Additional underwing stations, or pylons, can carry other armament

configurations including the AGM-84 Harpoon, AGM-84E SLAM,
AGM-84H/K SLAM-ER and gravity bombs.

The aircraft has two CFM International CFM56-7B27A high-bypass

turbofan engines, each rated at 120kN.
The same model CFM56-7 engines power the Boeing 737 airborne
early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, in production for
Australia and Turkey, and the US Navy's C-40 Clipper transport.
The engine has logged more than 30 million flight hours and
maintains a proven high reliability figure of merit of 0.003% in-flight
shut down rate per 1,000 hours of flight.

The aircraft is equipped with four Allison T56-A-14 turboprop

engines rated at 3,661kW.

Each engine drives a four-blade constant-speed propeller, type

54H60-77 supplied by Hamilton Standard.

There are five fuel tanks, one in the fuselage and four integral wing
tanks with a total fuel capacity of 34,800l.

The aircraft can carry weapons in the bomb bay and on ten
underwing pylons.

Air-to-surface missiles are installed on the underwing

hardpoints.

The bomb bay is in the underside of the fuselage forward of the

wing.

It is capable of carrying a 2,000lb mine such as the mk25, mk39,

HINDU JUDAICS TAKE

P 8I is less fuel efficient at low altitudes than P- 3C.
P 8I is more costly than P 3C.
P 8I have more range, more speed & is much more capable
aircraft than P 3C.
