Traditional Dress
 Because of the warm climate, summer
clothing is suitable to wear all year.
 Women wear dresses more commonly
then slacks.
 During the dry season, light jackets are
worn at night.
Customs/Traditions
 El Salvador is really big into soccer, it is
tradition to play it when they get
together as a family or just for fun.
 Art is also really big.

Typical Food
 Salvadoran food is much less spicy than
that of many Latin America Countries.
 Most locals eat red beans cooked in many
ways, baked for example.
 One of the most common dishes is
pupusas.
 Many middle class locals eat beef and
chicken if they can afford it.

 The nuclear Family is the basis of
Salvadoran society.
 The father is typically head of the family,
which has an average of five members.
 Single – parent families are very common.
Housing
 El Salvador has problems with
overcrowding.
 In cities Salvadorans live very close to
each other, with many of them living in
a single house.
 House’s are really small.

Dating/Marriage
 Dating for both genders begins after the
fifteenth birthday.
 Many teenagers become pregnant at a
young age.
 It is improper for couples to date openly
unless engaged.

 The Salvadoran people have many
holidays that are some what fun.
 They have all the same holidays as the
US.

 El Salvador is a democratic republic. The
executive branch is led by a president
and vice president.
 Antonio Saca was elected in 2004 as
president
 Serves a 5 year term.
Economy
 El Salvador has a very low economy due
to war.
 One of the poorest counties in Latin
America.
 Economic growth is still low but inflation
remains under control.

 1 colon = 100 centavos

 Few Salvadorans own cars, most travel by
bus
 Rural people also travel on foot or by
pickup taxi.
 Roads in and around cities are mostly
pavement or gravel.

 The climate is tropical in the lowland with
an average annual temperature of
around 85.
 Rainy Season from May to October.
 Also has a Dry Season.

also just smaller then Massachusetts
 El Salvador is a narrow band of coastal
lowlands.

area long before Spanish colonization.
 Ruins of their cultures remain at Tarzans,
Joyade Cesen, and Quad era.
 The indigenous people called their land
cuscatlm.
