Role of Graduate
Education
-Is essential for maintaining a vibrant
economy and healthy communities
especially in the face of increasing global
completion,
-The attainment of baccalaureate
degree, many students elect to continue
studies at an advance level.

Specifically, the Graduate School

aims to:
1. Strengthen competence in the field of
teaching, administration, and
supervision;
2. Develop students imbued with the
ideals of love, freedom and service and
who are innovative, dedicated, and
disciplined;

3. Develop entrepreneurship and to spur

socio-economic growth;
4. Advance their knowledge, attitudes,
values, and skills and be more
responsive to change;
5. Intensify capacity for functional
creative research in the broadening
educational sphere, and;
6. Inculcate the spirit of volunteerism in
assisting the underprivileged members
of the society.

Graduate Education in the

Philippines
Graduate Education in the Philippines is
characterized by imbalance (Patalinhug
200)
1987-1988- 92.02% graduate enrollment
1994-1995-91.11% concentrated in only 3
disciplines; teachers education, arts and
sciences, and management.
The percent (30.27% and 10.68%) reported
by arts and sciences is heavily weighted
in favor of enrollment for liberal arts
degrees because few students are reported

 Graduate management program has the

third largest enrollment.
Because of this situation, the DOST
embarked on the Engineering and Science
Education Project (ESEP) in 1992 through a
World Bank Loan.
ESEP is a manpower development program
for increasing the number of MS and Ph.D.
degree holders in Science and Engineering,
and developing the research capability of
scientist and engineers.

Graduate Education is mediocre for it
fails to create research-based
knowledge needed in generating more
jobs and raising the value of
production.
The Philippine educational institution

quality education.
