other non conventional type has to be
brought to the utility point for use by
means of Transmission and Sub
transmission systems. The transmission
and distribution systems maybe of

2. Underground cable System

INTRODUCTION-2
Transmission by overhead system is
cheaper compared to cable system. Due to
abnormal growth in the load, it is becoming
very essential to improve the transmission
and distribution systems. This again needs
erection of additional EHT/HT/MV
substations at load centers. But due to
abnormal growth and upcoming of high rise
buildings, it is very difficult to bring the
source by overhead system and
underground cable system is found to be a
suitable solution to bring the source at any
voltage level.
However, the initial cost of underground
cable system is more compared to the

Underground cable system is again a means

are manufactured and above this
voltage level only single core cables are
manufactured because of the increase
in the dimensions of the materials used
which further
increases the overall
diameter of the cable This makes it
very difficult to manufacture and also
to install the same at site.
