INTRODUCTION

Bahria University was established on 7th February 2000


through a Presidential Ordinance.

Its headquarters situated at the capital city of Pakistan


Islamabad

The chancellor of BU is President of Pakistan and vice


chancellor is The chancellor of this university is president of
Pakistan and vice chancellor is Admiral Muhammad
Zakaullah.

BU has Institutes of Management and Computer Sciences


which were established by the Pakistan Navy in the 1980s and
1990s in Islamabad and Karachi.

BU offers Bachelor and higher degree programmers.

Bahria University one of the leading Universities of Pakistan


and placed in General category its ranking was 19 out of 24
General Universities.

To remain committed to the attainment of higher


standards in teaching, learning and research, at par
with the international standards.

VISION STATEMENT OF BU

To contribute to the development of society and the


country through promotion of QHE

QUALITY ASSURANCE AGENCY

Quality Assurance system was introduced in Pakistan in


2003 by (QAA) (HEC) of Pakistan

Bahria University was included in third phase


commencing in June 2009

Quality Assurance comprises of two


major components

Development of processes and capacity building to


ensure implementation of criteria

To develop a system to arrange regular internal and


external assessments/ audits

QUALITY ENHANCEMENT CELL OF BU

It operates under of Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of


HEC, for the promotion of Quality in Higher Education
BU conducts Self-Assessment Exercise regularly.

It reviews the performance of academic programs in


the university based on the national and international
parameters of quality and excellence in teaching and
research.

HIERARCHY OF QEC
OFFICIALS

QEC is responsible to develop


procedures for the following

Approval of new programs

Annual monitoring and evaluation including program


monitoring, faculty monitoring and students perception
Departmental review
Student feedback
Employer feedback
Quality assurance of Masters, M.Phil. and Ph.D.
degree program
Subject review
Instructional assessment
Program specifications
Qualification framework

Functions of QEC

Quality and standards of the award of degrees are


enhanced and safeguarded

Review of quality standards and the quality of teaching


and learning.

Develop qualifications framework and effective


management

Develop methods of evaluation to affirm that quality of


provision and standards

To ensure that the universitys quality assurance


procedures are in line with quality assurance agency
(QAA), of HEC

SELF ASSESSMENT
PROCEDURE

The QEC initiates the SA one semester prior to the end


of the assessment cycle

PT will be responsible for preparing a self-assessment


report (SAR) about the program

The department shall submit the SAR to the QEC


through the concerned Dean/HOD.

The Rector forms a program assessment team (AT) of 23 members in consultation with the QEC
recommendations within one month

The QEC plans and schedules the AT visit period in


coordination with the department that is offering the
program.

SELF ASSESSMENT
PROCEDURE

The AT conducts the assessment, submits a report and


presents its findings to QEC, Dean, and PT and faculty
members.

The QEC shall submit an executive summary on the AT


findings to the Rector.

The department shall prepare and submit an


implementation plan to QEC based on the AT findings.

The academic department shall inform the QEC each


time a corrective action is implemented.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS
CRITERION 1: PROGRAM MISSION, OBJECTIVES
AND OUTCOMES
Each program must have a mission, measureable objective
and expected outcomes for graduates.

CRITERION 2: CURRICULUM DESIGN AND


ORGANISATION
Curriculum must be designed and organized to achieve the
programs objectives and outcomes.

CRITERION 3: LABORATORIES AND COMPUTING


FACILITIES
Laboratories and computing facilities must be adequately
available and accessible to faculty members and students to
support teaching and research activities

CRITERION 4: STUDENT SUPPORT AND
ADVISING
Student must have adequate support to complete the
program in a timely manner and must have ample
opportunity to interact with their instructors

CRITERION 5: PROCESS CONTROL


The process by which major functions are delivered
must be in place, controlled, periodically reviewed,
evaluated and continuously improved

CRITERION 6: FACULTY
Faculty members must be current and active in their
discipline and have the necessary technical depth and
breadth to support the program

CRITERION 7: INSTITUTIONAL FACILITIES
Institutional facilities, including library, computing
facilities, classrooms and offices must be to support
the objective of the program

CRITERION 8: INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT


The institutions support and the financial resources
for the program must be sufficient to provide an
environment in which the program can achieve its
objectives and retain its strength

CONCLUSION

Through quality enhancement cell, Bahria University is


striving to improve the standards of quality to compete
on national as well as international level.

QEC develops such policies and guidelines which can


ensure the implication of these standards.

BU has competitive evaluation criteria and has its


thorough assessment procedures which enables the BU
to keep in pace with other uprising universities.
