EMOTIONS

God has emotions

My ability to feel is a gift from God.

human beings in our image, to

TWO EXTREMES TO AVOID

*Emotionalism: All that matters is how I
feel
*Stoicism: Feelings arent important at all
*God gave us the Book of Psalms to
understand
our emotions.

Why I Must Manage My

Emotions

1. Because my feelings are not

reliable.
There is a way that seems right to a
man, but its end is the way of death.
Pro.14:12 (NKJV)

 2. Because I dont want to be

manipulated.
Like an open city with no defenses is
the man with no check on his feelings
Pr.25:28 (NAB)
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy
the devil prowls around like a roaring
lion looking for someone to devour. 1

 3. Because I want to please God.

The attitude that comes from selfishness leads
to death, but the attitude that comes from the
Spirit leads to life and peace. So the attitude
that comes from selfishness is hostile to God.
It doesnt submit to Gods Law, because it
cant. People who are self-centered arent able
to please God. Romans 8:6-8 (CEB)

 4. Because I want to succeed in

life.
(People) get lost and die because of
their foolishness and lack of self-control.
Pr.5:23 (CEV)
so that he no longer should live the rest
of his time in the flesh serving human
desires, but the will of God. 1 Pet.4:2

HOW TO MANAGE AN UNWANTED FEELING

1. Name it
Please listen and answer me. Let me speak to you and tell
you what upsets me. Ps.55:2

2. Challenge it
Look closely at me, Lord, and test me. Judge my deepest
thoughts and emotions. Ps.26:2

3. Tame it
Why has your heart carried you away, and why do your eyes
flash, so that you vent your rage against God and pour out
such words from your mouth? Job 15:12

way?
2. Is it true?
3. Is what Im feeling helping me or
hurting me?
