The name 'India' is derived from the River Indus, the
valleys around which were the home of the early
settlers. The Aryan worshippers referred to the river
Indus as the Sindhu.

number and concept of zero was invented and documented first
by Indians.
The world's first university was established in Takshila in 700
BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied
more than 60 subjects
One of the more known India facts is yoga. Originating in India,
yoga is now a world-wide form of exercise and relaxation.
Meditation and stretches are an integral part of yoga.
Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus are studies, which
originated in India.
The game of Snakes & Ladders was created by the 13th century
poet saint Gyandev. It was originally called 'Mokshapat'.

Ayurveda is the earliest school of medicine known to


mankind. The Father of Medicine, Charaka, consolidated
Ayurveda 2500 years ago.
The Art of Navigation & Navigating was born in the river
Sindh over 6000 years ago. The very word Navigation is
derived from the Sanskrit word 'NAVGATIH'. The word
navy is also derived from the Sanskrit word 'Nou'.
The value of "pi" was first calculated by the Indian
Mathematician Budhayana, and he explained the
concept of what is known as the Pythagorean Theorem.
He discovered this in the 6th century, long before the
European mathematicians.

world

Sushruta is regarded as the Father of Surgery. Over2600 years


ago Sushrata & his team conducted complicated surgeries like
cataract, artificial limbs, cesareans, fractures, urinary stones,
plastic surgery and brain surgeries.
Martial Arts were first created in India, and later spread to
Asia by Buddhist missionaries.
India was one of the richest countries till the time of British
rule in the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus,
attracted by India's wealth, had come looking for a sea route
to India when he discovered America by mistake.

Religion

The four religions born in India - Hinduism, Buddhism,


Jainism, and Sikhism, are followed by 25% of the world's
population.
Islam is India's and the world's second largest religion.
There are 300,000 active mosques in India, more than
in any other country, including the Muslim world.
Indias constitution declares that Indian citizens have
religious freedom.
100 million people come to India's Kumbh Mela Festival,
the world's biggest gathering of humans.

Language

There are 1,652 dialects and languages spoken in India.


It is not at all unusual for an Indian to speak at least two
and often more languages well.
There are currently 22 recognized languages in India,
with Standard Hindi and English being the standard
languages.
Because so many Indians speak English, India now has
the largest population of English speakers in the world.
The Indian languages belong to four language families
namely Indo-European, Dravidian, Austroasiatic (Austric)
and Sino-Tibetan. Majority of India's population are using
Indo-European and Dravidian languages.

It is the Mother of all languages. About 97% of world languages have been
directly or indirectly influenced by this language.
Most efficient & best algorithms for computer have been made in Sanskrit
not in english.
America has a University dedicated to Sanskrit and the NASA too has a
department in it to research on Sanskrit manuscripts.
Research has shown that the phonetics of this language has roots in
various energy points of the body and reading, speaking or reciting
Sanskrit stimulates these points and raises the energy levels, whereby
resistance against illnesses, relaxation to mind and reduction of stress are
achieved.
Sanskrit is the only language, which uses all the nerves of the tongue. By
its pronunciation, energy points in the body are activated that causes the
blood circulation to improve. This, coupled with the enhanced brain
