High
impact

business can carry on without this information, however it
will not function as effectively or successfully as it would if
the information was available.

Low
impact

Information that provides minimal contribution to the


business operation and without this information most
business activities would continue to occur.

Assessing the suitability of information involves

Accessibility
Assessing the accessibility involves asking

questions such as:


How is the information accessed?
How appropriate is the access method for my team?
Are computer skills required to access the

information?
Does location impact the ability to access information?
Is there a need provide the information in a

Currency
Using out of date information can have

enormous negative impacts on business


decisions.
To ensure the currency of information:
check the version of the document and when it

was last updated


review the document register to confirm you have

the most recent document


confirm currency with the owner of the information
check any references to date.

Reliability
Organisations ensure the reliability of information

by:
using auditors to check the information for accuracy
establishing committees of experts responsible for

ensuring information is accurate


completing data validations or spot checks of
information.

You can assess the reliability of information by

asking:
Is the information from a trusted source?
Has the information been checked for accuracy?
How was the information checked for accuracy?
