Text: Hebrews 13:17-18

MY LEADER
• Heb 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to
their authority. They keep watch over you as
men who must give an account. Obey them
so that their work will be a joy, not a burden,
for that would be of no advantage to you.
• Heb 13:18 Pray for us. We are sure that we
have a clear conscience and desire to live
honorably in every way.

 Intro: Contests in a Fiesta
• Many messages deal on how a leader
should love his flocks.
• Our leaders in the church need to be
loved also.
• A well-loved leader is happy in serving
the Lord and motivated to labor

MY LEADER
• Heb 13:17 (CEV) Obey your leaders
and do what they say. They are
watching over you, and they must
answer to God. So don't make them
sad as they do their work. Make them
happy. Otherwise, they won't be able to
help you at all.

• (GNB) Obey your leaders and follow
their orders. They watch over your
souls without resting, since they must
give to God an account of their service.
If you obey them, they will do their
work gladly; if not, they will do it with
sadness, and that would be of no help

BE RESPONSIVE AND LISTEN
TO THEIR COUNSEL
• (TMSG) Be responsive to your pastoral
leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are
alert to the condition of your lives and
work under the strict supervision of God.
Contribute to the joy of their leadership,
not its drudgery. Why would you want to
make things harder for them?

2. SUBMIT TO THEIR AUTHORITY
WHEN THERE IS DISAGREEMENT
• Heb 13:17 Obey your leaders and
submit to their authority. They keep
watch over you as men who must give
an account. Obey them so that their

--- RECOGNIZE YOUR LEADER'S
AUTHORITY
• (AMP) Obey your spiritual leaders and submit to
them [continually recognizing their authority over
you], for they are constantly keeping watch over
your souls and guarding your spiritual welfare, as
men who will have to render an account [of their
trust]. [Do your part to] let them do this with
gladness and not with sighing and groaning,
for that would not be profitable to you [either].

3. APPRECIATE YOUR LEADER
• HEBREWS 13:7
(TMSG) Appreciate your pastoral
leaders who gave you the Word of God.
Take a good look at the way they live,
and let their faithfulness instruct you,
as well as their truthfulness. There
should be a consistency that runs
through us all.

YOUR IDEAS AND THE FLAWS YOU
SEE IN THEM

• 1Ti 5:19 Do not entertain an accusation
against an elder unless it is brought by
two or three witnesses.

 4. HONOR YOUR LEADER
• 1Ti 5:17 The elders who direct the affairs of
the church well are worthy of double honor,
especially those whose work is preaching
and teaching.
(AMP) Let the elders who perform the duties
of their office well be considered doubly
worthy of honor [and of adequate [1]financial
support], especially those who labor
faithfully in preaching and teaching.

• (CEV) Church leaders who do their job well
deserve to be paid twice as much,
especially if they work hard at preaching
and teaching.
• (TMSG) Give a bonus to leaders who do a
good job, especially the ones who work
hard at preaching and teaching.
