STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF RAINFALL AND

AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION
Summary of collected data:
The first dataset is the annual and monthly rainfall statistics relating to India.
The second dataset is the yearly food grain production in India, from 1950 to 2013.
The data includes the production for rice, white, coarse cereals and pulses.

METHODOLOGY
OBJECTIVE:
To find out relation between rainfall in different months and
corresponding Agricultural Outputs
To Find out trends in output of different agricultural products
with changing time
ANALYSIS TO BE PERFORMED
General descriptive Analysis
General observations from data trends.
Co-Variance Analysis between different categories.
Co-Relation Analysis between different categories.
Single ANOVA analysis on Agricultural outputs, Rainfalls in
different years.
Hypothesis testing- Average rainfall in January and February,
Various Cereal production

DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS

1.India receives 80% of rainfall during June-September

(Monsoon Season).
2. The main agricultural product contributing to Net
Output are Rice and Wheat.
3. There is highest difference in production of Rice and
Wheat
The output of pulses is relatively less varying.

ANALYSIS
The annual rainfall shows a symmetric

Co-Relation ANALYSIS

No Co-relation can be found between annual Rainfall and

Agricultural Production
Possible Reason: The Improved practices in agricultural
and green revolution lead to better production.

ANOVA ANALYSIS
Monthwise Rainfall for Year 20032012

The test compares variances in Monthly rainfalls in year

2003-2012
Conclusion: F<F-Critical
- Hypothesis is not rejected

WHEAT AND PULSES (2003-2012)

F > F-Critical
Hypothesis is rejected
