TRANSPORT LAYER

The transport layer ensures that messages are delivered error free, in
sequence without loss or duplication. frees the upper-layer protocols of
any matter relating to the transfer of data between them and their
peers.

PURPOSE OF THE TRANSPORT LAYER

The Transport layer allows segmentation and provides the necessary data to
reassemble the parts into different streams of communication control.
The main responsibilities are to be met:

Tracking the individual communication between applications on the source and

destination hosts

Segmenting data and managing each portion

Reassembly of segments in application data flows

Identifying the different applications.

Data requirements vary

Separation of multiple communications

CONTROL OF CONVERSATION
The main functions specified by all protocols of the Transport layer include:
Segmentation and reassembly: Most networks have a limitation as to the amount of data
included in a single PDU (protocol data unit).
Multiplexing talks: multiple applications or services can be running on each host on the network.
For basic segmentation and reassembly of data, some protocols of the Transport layer provides:

connection-oriented conversations,
reliable delivery
ordered data reconstruction and
flow control.

Establishing a session
The Transport layer can provide this guidance to creating a
session connection between applications.
Reliable Delivery
For several reasons, it is possible that a section of data is
corrupted or lost completely as they spread through the
network.
Delivery in the same order
Since networks can provide multiple routes that have different
transmission times, data can arrive in the wrong order.
Flow Control
can prevent the loss of network segments and avoid the need
for retransmission.

RELIABLE COMMUNICATION SUPPORT

A protocol of the transport layer can implement a method to
ensure reliable data delivery.
In networking terms, reliability means ensuring that each section
of data sent by the source reaches the destination.
At the Transport layer, the three basic operations of reliability
are:

monitoring data transmitted,

acknowledgment of the received data, and
relay data without acknowledgment.

TCP Y UDP

The two most common protocols of the Transport layer of the

TCP / IP protocols are the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)
and User Datagram Protocol (UDP).
Both communication protocols manage multiple applications.
The differences between them are the specific roles that each
implements.
