Municipal solid waste (trash) incineration

is the most expensive and polluting way
to manage waste or to make energy.

Globally there are more than 2

600 burners divided as follows,
approx:
2 000 in Asia
460 in Europe
100 in North America
30-40 in the rest of the world

Why a recycling/reusing/eco-park?

A few facts about the eco-cycle park

About: 300-400 visitors per day
Turn over: 2013 1,2 milj.euro
Create work opportunities for about
25 people very important, green
jobs
More than 130 guidings from
Sweden and more than 50 different
countries have visited our Park

Are we influencing
people's
behaviour?

Many come just to

donate. They stop at the
sorting station and drive
out again, without
visiting the recycling
centre
Because we ask
ACTIVELY if the visitor
has something to
donate, we encourage
such behavior and more
things are left for reuse.
We educate people,
learning by doing

Prevention fact!
Alelyckan Recycling park in Gothenburg prevents 360
tonnes of waste per year by enabling products to be reused
rather than discarded, representing a reduction in
environmental impact equivalent to the greenhouse gas
emissions from 430 cars, each driven 15,000 kilometers.
Approximately 2,200 tonnes of waste per year equivalent
to just over 5 percent of all waste material delivered to
Gothenburgs five recycling centres could be prevented if
these were converted to recycling parks.
In other words, Alelyckan Recyclingpark is a facility that
combines product reuse with waste sorting while
encouraging visitors to contribute to product reuse rather
than merely discarding their waste.
We create jobs for people that have problem to get into the
workmarket, we give them an extra chance

How much waste does

Alelyckan RecyclingReusing-Ecopark prevent?

Moving
up!

Alelyckan reduces the quantity of bulky waste delivered to the

recycling centre by over 5 percent.
The facility enables 360 tonnes of products per year to be reused
rather than discarded.
Every year, 2,200 tonnes of potentially reusable products are
discarded at Gothenburgs recycling centres.
The corresponding figure for Sweden as a whole is 80,000 tonnes.

99% recycling, thats Sweden today!

34 incinerators and building another 9. Renewable energy?
Swedish district heating is dependent on waste import
It has been seen and is still seen as a fantastic solution.
It takes great political courage to dare to bet on something else if there is
already a working solution that is also profitable, the garbage will disappear and
we get heat
2 milj ton and it will increase, we keep most of the ashes in Sweden, airpollution?
Fly ashes goes to Norway, to an island in a fjord
Cheap to burn, overcapacity! Norway building new incinerators = expensive fees
Why think about other systems, when incineration is so cheap and easy
Norwegian NRK has previously reported how one of Norway's municipalities have
chosen to quit sort food waste to ensure that there is enough fuel for the power
plants. It has simply become more economical to burn garbage, than to recycle
it.
Criminals handle waste in Sweden and Europe, toxic waste,
Oil Sludge from Norway was supposed to be burnt in Sweden, measure if its
radioactive
40 000 ton of toxic ashes in an open landfill
You should be aware that waste trade is a global market, where price
determines. If it is less expensive to send waste to West Africa it will go there.
EU requires that all member countries have a waste prevention programs.

Titanic
Nobody would remember the Titanic today if.... somebody had been on deck early,
right after it'd struck the iceberg, educating everyone about how to properly use the
lifeboat. Telling them about the importance of everyone getting a seat so that the
passengers would not die. Clearly, the Captain and the Crew failed -- they were the
responsible for the passengers deaths. But, what if a passenger had known? What if
a passenger had Google and looked up the proper use of a lifeboat? What then?
Why do I say this?
Our planet is like the Titanic. It is sinking and the people responsible for it are failing
to do enough about it. But, unlike the Titanic, the Earth is taking years rather than
hours to sink.and more importantly, we have Google and Social media to educate
ourselves about the solutions.
Now is not the time to go below the deck and wait for the inevitable.
Now is the time to act.
Now is the time to do something about it.
There is enough time to save it -- I know there is but we have to act now.
We are not the first trying save the world BUT we are part of it today, today we are
sending a message to the world, we are here, we have the knowledge, we have the
energy and we will work for a better world and we will work for a cleaner and more
sustainable world a Zero Waste World.

Total recycling is a big vision - it

means not wasting anything.
Waste is proof that something is
wrong in the society, its a true
evidence. You can try burn it or bury it
but still its an evidence of a society
that's not sustainable.
Waste means that there are product
made that are wrong, we need a
redesign of these products so they will
fit in to a modern sustainable world.
