Unmanaged Switch
An unmanaged switch is a low cost device that connects multiple
Ethernet devices to a single network segment
Unmanaged switch Capabilities
Plug and Play device operation, no configuration required
Store and Forward stores and checks all received data before forwarding
Multi-Address Capability - learn source addresses on a per-port basis
Tagging - data packets with VLAN tags are transmitted unchanged by the
switch
Auto-negotiation of communication rate, and half/full- duplex mode
Auto crossing for cables
Link Control - monitor the connected TP/TX line segments for short circuits
and interrupts
Fiber Far-End Fault Monitoring checks receiving and transmitting direction
optical input power light levels, sets link inactive if it falls below set point.

Unmanaged Switch
Where to use
Small networks with light network traffic
Simple network configurations that are easy to maintain and troubleshoot
Network down time is not expensive
Network redundancy is not required
Network does not bridge Control and IT networks
Applications where IP67 watertight rating is needed (TCSESU051F0)
Simple networks with long distances (switches w/fiber optic connections)
High electrical noise environments (switches w/fiber optic connections)
Connecting buildings with different potentials (switches w/fiber optic
connections)
