Introduction
Adolescence is the period between 12 18 yrs. It is the bridge
linking childhood and adulthood. And it is accompanied by
several biological and behavioral changes.
First use of drug / alcohol increases the curiosity or
experimentation but later child start using this to escape facing
problems.

Drug Abuse
Compulsive, excessive and self damaging use of drugs or
substances that leading to addiction that causes on serious
physiological or psychological harm or death.

Drug Education
Educational program aims to educate peoples about illicit
drug use in an effort to prevent illegal drug use, while
highlighting the danger of substance abuse.

Alcoholism
Alcohol may be worlds oldest known drug and also known as
ethyl alcohol or ethanol.
Disease known as alcohol dependence syndrome. The most
severe stage is a group of drinking problems which begins with
binge drinking and alcohol.
Alcohol Education
Aim at population level prevention program typically
administrated to all high schools or college fresh men.

Path of Alcohol in the body

1.

Mouth: alcohol enters the body.

2.

Stomach: some alcohol gets into the bloodstream in


the stomach, but most goes on to the small intestine.

3.

Small Intestine: alcohol enters the bloodstream


through the walls of the small intestine.

4.

Heart: pumps alcohol throughout the body.

5.

Brain: alcohol reaches the brain.

6.

Liver: alcohol is oxidized by the liver

Addiction and Dependence


Repeated use of drugs, tolerance level of receptors present in
our body increases. So receptors respond to only to higher doses
of drugs. These lead to regular use.
Absence of counselling person get addicted. It is
discontinued, person show withdrawal syndrome. This is
characterized by anxiety, sleep problem, shaking, nausea and
sweating.
Chronic drinking leads to dependence and addiction to alcohol.
More severe withdrawal symptoms include hallucination and even
seizures.

Effects
1.Central nervous system
Alcohol is CNS depressant.
Accelerates the loss of brain cells
Contributing to cognitive deficits
Chronic use lead to brain damage
2. Liver
Long term excessive drinking cause hepatitis and cirrohsis

3.Kidneys
Impairs their ability to regulate the volume and composition of fluid and
electrolytes in the body.
4.Heart
Chronic heavy alcohol use increases risk of heart disease
Alcohol use can also worsen high BP and diabetes
