Instructional displays and exhibits may be

prepared by the teacher, the students, or
as a cooperative effort.
Colorful and fresh displays and exhibits
create interest and involvement and
suggest a vital and active learning
situation.
If the instructional display is to promote
student learning, it should have some
clearly defined learning objective.

If they are composed of basically twodimensional visual materials, they

can be categorized asbulletin
board displays

Those involving three-dimensional

objects areexhibits.

Displays can serve three

primary purposes as follows:
1. Motivate and stimulate
student interest
. both interesting as well as
informative
. the mind will remember and
relate what is seen with
what will be learned.

Theory of displaying
students work
Displaying students work is one of the
effective ways in raising the students
motivation in learning.

This fact was noted byBF. Skinner(1938)

with hisReinforcement theory:

Linda Henke (1970) stated that there were
three most important things we could
communicate to students:
This work is important.
You can do this.
I willhelp you.

E-XHIBIT
online publication or display
of student work
posting student work online
Blogs and websites

Tom Chambers, Technology Applications

teacher at Raul Yzaguirre School for
Success in Houston, TX, has been posting
student work online for some time, and he
is a staunch advocate for the benefits of
doing so.

Most of the projects are core subject in

nature, and they are created via
technological tools [software/hardware],
Chambers said. Absolutely, this approach
should be taken by all teachers. Even the
traditional assignments should be
scanned [digitized] and placed on Web
pages for the students to peruse, and
feel proud about what they do.

The most significant advantage in

posting the projects online is for the
students to see their product [finished
projects] showcased in this manner for
empowerment and self-worth, Chambers
said. I also use the projects listing page
to show student examples to motivate
other students during the teaching
process. The Web page is also a good
promotional tool for our school system.

EXHIBIT vs. E-XHIBIT

EXHIBIT

E-XHIBIT

requires much time and

effort to prepare

Recent advancements in
online technology have
made it easier and
cheaper

can be accessed by
people from the school
community

can be accessed by
literally anyone in the
world

Both share the same purposes: to motivate

students; to transmit information; to display
student learning, skill acquisition, and academic
achievement
