Listening

is the process of paying


attention to what one hears and trying
to understand or to get the meaning
conveyed or implied by the speaker.

Barriers to Effective Listening


Branding the subject an
uninteresting/boring.
Focusing attention on
appearance/delivery.
Avoiding difficult/unpleasant material.
Getting emotional while listening.
Listening for facts rather than ideas.
Faking attention
Yielding to distractions easily.
Thinking of unrelated, personal
problems/concerns.

Listen actively.
Avoid hasty conclusions.
Use thinking time.

Listen rationally, not emotionally.
Focus on the speaker not the physical.

Dyadic Communication
Two-person

of dyadic communication is
the most basic kind of interpersonal
communication by which two persons
mutually share information, ideas, and
even arguments.
One kind of this is the interview.

Small Group Communication


A

group small enough in size to facilitate


every members interacting with every
other member and whose members
perceive themselves as a cooperative
unit, create a structure of role
relationships, and develop normative
patterns of relating to one another.
This is an effective method in making
decisions and solving problems.
