The global situation for tungsten

(All figures are approximations and estimations)
The global demand of tungsten is
55 000 tons per annum
There are two main sources of
supply
Tungsten ore
85% is produced in China

Recycled tungsten products

50% of tungsten products are recycled
Cemented carbide and HSS are the most
recyclable products

The tungsten usage

A metal with a wide range of uses
The pure form of tungsten is mainly
used in lightning, defence,
chemicals, steel alloys etc.
Tungsten carbide is used by the
metalworking, mining, petroleum and
construction industries.
Tungsten carbide is the most
common material used to make
milling and turning tools.

The Sandvik Coromant insert and round

tool recycle program
Sandvik Coromant is offering to
collect used carbide inserts and solid
carbide tools and recycle them in the
most environmentally friendly way.
Simple procedure with collection
boxes and transport boxes.

The logistics

Order a collection box for each of your machining centres. We

recommend one box for inserts and one separate box for solid
carbide tools.
Minimum quantity for return: 20kg per box
For large users we recommend barrels which can take 250kg
Weigh and return the goods with packing slip

The recycling process

There are two main production

processes for recycling of tungsten
products
Zinc process
Chemical process

Sandvik Coromant is using the Zinc

process
This process can only be used for
finished products and is ideal for
processing of smaller products like
inserts.

The recycle factory

Is located in Chiplun, India, about

200km south of Mumbai in the Lote
Parhuram chemical industrial zone
The production was certified to ISO
14001 and OHSAS 18001 in
January 2007

The purchase conditions

You will be paid a fair price for

recycled carbide taking into
consideration size- and service costs
We pay the current price per
kilo/pound of carbide times the
weight of the returned inserts
Ask your Sandvik Coromant
representative for your terms and
conditions
