Passover and

the Tenth
Plague

Passover - is
referring to how
the angel of death
passed over the
houses of the
Israelites and spared
the firstborn sons
from the 10th plague.

Passover Meal
1.Prepare a one-year-old
lamb without blemish
for slaughter
2.Sprinkle some of the
lambs blood on the lintel
and doorposts of the
houses
3.Eat
hurried
meal
consisting
of a roast
lamb
eaten
with
unleavened bread and
bitter herbs.

Three feasts constituting the Passover

rite
Shepherd Feast- As nomads, they
would sacrifice some newborn lambs to
ensure fertility of their flocks and as a
preparation for a change in their
pasture grounds in the springtime. The
blood of the lamb is considered a
protection against evil powers
threatening the flock. The meal which
followed the sacrifice was a sign of
family unity restricted to those who
shared the same life

Agricultural Feast- Farmers

would mark the end of the
previous years grain crop and
the start of the spring harvest by
destroying all the leaven which
was left over, leaven or yeast a
symbol of corruption and
fermentation. Thus they would
eat unleavened bread.

Dedication of the Firstborn

children to God- Since the
time of Abraham, the
firstborn sons are sacrificed
to obtain numerous
descendants.

God told the Israelites to

observe a ritual in
preparation for the escape
from Egypt.

1.Prepare a one-year-old lamb

without blemish for slaughter
2.Sprinkle some of the lambs blood
on the lintel and doorposts of the
houses
(when God went through Egypt that
night, He spared all the houses
marked with the blood of a lamb)

3.Eat hurried meal consisting of a

roast lamb eaten with unleavened
bread and bitter herbs.
