THE
WRATH
OF ALMIGHTY
GOD

BOAST ONLY IN THE CROSS!

But far

be it from me to
boast except in the cross of
our Lord Jesus Christ, by
which the world has been
crucified to me, and I to the
world.
(Galatians 6:14)

NOTE:

It is a TERRIBLE HERESY
when
we CREATE A GOD TO
SATISFY US, A GOD THAT
MEETS OUR DEMANDS!!

A VERY IMPORTANT TRUTH:

A HOLY GOD
IS ALSO
A
GOD OF WRATH!

1. The word, WRATH appears

189 times in Scripture
2. Because GOD IS HOLY, HE
CANNOT ENDURE SIN!
For the wrath of God is revealed
from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness
of men, who by their
unrighteousness suppress the
truth. (Romans 1:18)

For we know him who said,

"Vengeance is mine; I will repay."
And again, "The Lord will judge
his people."
It is a fearful

thing to fall
into the hands of the living
God.
(Hebrews 10:30, 31)

THE LOVE OF GOD

HOLDS BACK
WRATH,
BUT,
GODS LOVE DOES NOT
ELIMINATE WRATH

NOTE VERY CAREFULLY:

The book of ROMANS SAYS MUCH
ABOUT THE GRACE OF GOD!
HOWEVER,
THE WORD, WRATH IS FOUND
12 TIMES
IN ROMANS!

EXAMINE HOW GODS WRATH

IS SEEN IN THE SCRIPTURES:
1. God forced ADAM and EVE to
leave the Garden of Eden
(Genesis 3:23, 24)
2. God destroyed man in the time
of the FLOOD (Genesis 6-9)
3. God destroyed SODOM and
GOMORRAH (Genesis 19)

4. God destroyed the city of

BABYLON (Isaiah 13)
5. In the New Testament,
ANANIAS and SAPPHIRA died
(Acts 5:1-11)
6. NOTE: Jesus was ANGRY at
the sinfulness, the hypocrisy
of the JEWS!
(Mark 3:1-5)

WHY DOES GOD HAVE WRATH?

BECAUSE OF THE SIN OF MAN!
SIN, NOT THE SINNER, IS
HATED BY GOD!
The IMPORTANT QUESTION IS:
WHY ISNT GOD MORE

ANGRY??

There are six things that the

LORD hates, seven that are an
abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent
blood,
(Proverbs 6:16, 17)

a heart that devises wicked

plans, feet that make haste to
run to evil,
a false witness who breathes
out lies, and one who sows
discord among brothers.
(Proverbs 6:18, 19)

CONSIDER:
If God permitted HIS SON TO DIE
ON THE CROSS, what WILL HE DO
TO SINNERS AT THE JUDGMENT?
WITH MAN, ANGER IS A PASSION;
WITH GOD, ANGER IS A
PRINCIPLE!

REPENTANCE
1. God is SLOW TO ANGER!
We must also be like that!
(James 1:19)
2. Because sin is RADICAL,
our REPENTANCE must also be
radical, true,
genuine!

THE GREAT TOPIC OF THE

SCRIPTURE IS REPENTANCE!
1. It is the MOST DIFFICULT
command to get people to
obey
2. Repentance was the only
sermon outline that JOHN THE
BAPTIST HAD!

In those days John the Baptist

came preaching in the wilderness
of Judea,
"Repent, for the kingdom of
heaven is at hand."
(Matthew 3:1, 2)

3. During HIS MINISTRY, JESUS

preached REPENTANCE
Now after John was arrested,
Jesus came into Galilee,
proclaiming the gospel of God,
and saying, "The time is fulfilled,
and the kingdom of God is at
hand; repent and believe in the
gospel. (Mark 1:14, 15)

THIS IS SO IMPORTANT:
FORGIVENESS IS IMPOSSIBLE
WITHOUT REPENTANCE!
And Peter said to them, "Repent
and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins, and you
will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

SINNERS ARE UNDER THE

WRATH OF GOD, AND

WITHOUT
REPENTANCE, THEY REMAIN
UNDER THAT WRATH!
Consider John 3:36

Whoever believes in the Son has

eternal life; whoever does not
obey the Son shall not see life, but
the wrath of God remains on

him.
(John 3:36)
It is so tragic that religious groups
will often offer salvation without
truth, knowledge, repentance or
obedience

REPENTANCE IS A SECOND
MIND, A NEW MIND, A
CHANGED MIND

Repentance is a WONDERFUL
RESPONSE TO GODS
GRACE!

Or do you presume on the riches

of his kindness and forbearance
and patience, not knowing that

God's kindness is meant to

lead you to repentance?
(Romans 2:4)

but because you were grieved

into repenting. For you felt a godly
grief, so that you suffered no loss
through us.
For godly grief produces a
repentance that leads to salvation
without regret, whereas worldly
grief produces death.
(II Corinthians 7:9, 10)

THINGS CONNECTED TO THE

CROSS
REMEMBER: We receive Gods
grace on HIS TERMS, NOT OURS!
GODS POWER IS AVAILABLE,
BUT, WE MUST CONNECT TO
GODS GRACE IN GODS WAY!
WHAT THINGS ARE CONNECTED
TO THE CROSS?

1. The NEW TESTAMENT

And he took a cup, and when he
had given thanks he gave it to
them, saying, "Drink of it, all of
you,
for this is my blood of the
covenant, which is poured out for
many for the forgiveness of sins.
(Matthew 26:27, 28)

Jesus BLOOD brought the new

covenant into existence
Therefore he is the mediator of a
new covenant, so that those who
are called may receive the
promised eternal inheritance,
since a death has occurred that
redeems them from the
transgressions committed under
the first covenant. (Heb. 9:15)

IF WE ACCEPT JESUS
BLOOD,
WE ACCEPT THE NEW
COVENANT PLACED INTO
FORCE BY HIS BLOOD!

2. THE NEW TESTAMENT

CHURCH is connected to the
CROSS
NOTE:
If we accept JESUS BLOOD, we
also accept the CHURCH that was
purchased by HIS BLOOD!
The CHURCH is the result that
comes out of the CROSS!

JESUS GAVE HIMSELF (At the

CROSS) FOR THE CHURCH!
Husbands, love your wives, as

Christ loved the church and

gave himself up for her,
(Ephesians 5:25)
YOU CANNOT SEPARATE CHRIST
FROM HIS CHURCH!

Take heed to yourselves and to

all the flock, in which the Holy
Spirit has made you overseers,

to care for the church of

God which he obtained
with the blood of his own
Son.
(Acts 20:28)

MAN WILL SAY, BUT, THE

CHURCH CANNOT SAVE YOU!
THAT IS CORRECT!
JESUS IS THE SAVIOR!
JESUS SAVES THE CHURCH!
THE CHURCH IS THE SAVED,
AND THE SAVED ARE THE
CHURCH! (Continued)

JESUS SAVES THE CHURCH,

HIS BODY
For the husband is the head of
the wife as Christ is the head of

the church, his body, and is

himself its Savior.
(Ephesians 5:23)
IT IS HISCHURCH!
(Acts 2:1-47)

A PERSON CANNOT SAY:

I love CHRIST, but I reject HIS
CHURCH!
The CHURCH is the BRIDE of
Christ!
The Spirit and the Bride say,
"Come." And let him who hears
say, "Come."
(Revelation 22:17)

3. The LORDS SUPPER and the

Lords Day are connected to
the CROSS
PRELIMINARY THOUGHTS:
Our cultures says, It makes no
difference WHAT you believe!
Just be honest, etc.
But, Believe WHAT?
Believe WHOM?

Our culture says, Jesus is

Lord! BUT WHAT DOES THAT
MEAN?

"Why do you call me 'Lord,

Lord,' and not do what I tell
you?
(Luke 6:46)

THE LORDS SUPPER

CONNECTS WITH THE CROSS!
1. It is in MEMORY of Christ and
His Sacrifice (I Cor. 11:23-29)
2. It is a COMMUNION of the
blood of Christ (I Cor. 10:16)
3. It proclaims the Lords death
(I Cor. 11:26)

4. BAPTISM is connected to the

CROSS
Some want to offer the sinners
prayer for salvation! (Luke 18:914)
These men in this parable were
brethren under the Law of Moses
Jesus forgave sins during His
ministry. Note Mark 2:1-12)

IN BAPTISM, THE SINNER IS

CONNECTED TO THE DEATH AND
BLOOD OF CHRIST!
(Romans 6:1-5; Colossians 2:11,
12)
A NON-BAPTIZED CHRISTIAN IS
COMPLETELY FOREIGN TO THE
WORD OF GOD!

Do you not know that all of us

who have been baptized into
Christ Jesus were baptized into
his death?
We were buried therefore with
him by baptism into death, so that
as Christ was raised from the
dead by the glory of the Father,
we too might walk in newness of
life. (Romans 6:3, 4)

THE SINNER IS BAPTIZED INTO

CHRIST
for in Christ Jesus you are all
sons of God, through faith.
For as many of you as were

baptized into Christ have put

on Christ.
(Galatians 3:26, 27)

SAUL OF TARSUS WAS A

PENITENT SINNER. HE WAS
TOLD TO

And now why do you wait?

Rise and be baptized, and
wash away your sins, calling
on his name. (Acts 22:16)
The Blood of Christ touched
SAUL!

5. The CRUCIFIED LIFE is

connected to the CROSS of
Christ
I have been crucified with

Christ; it is no longer I who

live, but Christ who lives in me;
and the life I now live in the flesh I
live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for
me. (Galatians 2:20)

THE CRUCIFIED LIFE

For you have died.
If then you have been raised with
Christ, seek the things that are
above, where Christ is, seated at
the right hand of God.
.For you have died, and your
life is hid with Christ in God.
(Colossians 3:1, 3)
