Mission Statement

Drug rehabilitation (often drug rehab or just rehab) is a term for

the processes of medical or psychotherapeutic treatment, for
dependency on psychoactive substances such as alcohol,
prescription drugs, and street drugs such as cocaine, heroin or
amphetamines. This facility is provided to the people, which is
called drug treatment facility.

Inpatient or outpatient

The day before you're discharged is your last inpatient day.

You're an outpatient if you're getting emergency department
services, observation services, outpatient surgery, lab tests, or
X-rays, or any other hospital services, and the doctor hasn't
written an order to admit you to a hospital as an inpatient

Short Term
Quick-relief medicines (also called rescue medicines or fastacting medicines) work immediately to relieve asthma
symptoms when they happen. They're often inhaled directly into
the lungs, where they open up the airways and relieve
symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath,
often within minutes.

Long Term

Long-term control medicines (also called controller medicines or

maintenance medicines) work over a period of time to ease
airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms. They
may be inhaled or swallowed as a pill or liquid.

Co-Occurring
At one time, treatment for drug or alcohol addiction was considered to be separate from treatment for mental health disorders, and
care was delivered at different facilities using radically different therapeutic approaches.

Dually diagnosed

Dual Diagnosis treatment is a relatively new innovation in the

field of addiction recovery. Until the 1990s, people who were
experiencing symptoms of a mental health disorder anxiety
attacks, depressive episodes, delusional behavior or mood
swings were treated separately from those who sought help
for drug or alcohol abuse.

individual session

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has a one-on-one

drug counseling model that most treatment facilities and
addiction counselors use to help recovering addicts get sober
and maintain their sobriety.

Group Session
The natural propensity of human beings to congregate makes
group therapy a powerful therapeutic tool for treating
substance abuse, one that is as helpful as individual therapy,
and sometimes more successful. One reason for this efficacy is
that groups intrinsically have many rewarding benefitssuch as
reducing isolation and enabling members to witness the
recovery of othersand these qualities draw clients into a
culture of recovery.
This chapter adopts a program perspective to examine both
outpatient and residential settings, highlighting promising
treatment models that have emerged both within the substance
abuse field and elsewhere. It also discusses the various
treatment approaches and models available to those working in
substance abuse settings.

Models Practiced

their life sentences, they are typically denied access to drug
treatment, educational opportunities and even life-saving
medical treatments. In short, they are essentially waiting to die.

Outpatient programs provide counseling and various levels of
treatment for persons addicted to alcohol and other drugs.
Typically programs meet on a weekly basis and help individuals
remain sober while learning about the nature of addiction.
However, some intensive outpatient or day treatment programs
may meet several times a week for 3 or more hours per session.
Most programs use 12-step recovery resources and tools.

Is it gender specific?
The survey did note that the gender gap closes in the area of
alcohol abuse among males and females aged 12-20. In 2013, this
group experienced similar rates of alcoholism (males at 23 percent
and females at 22.5 percent). There are a host of factors
contributing to the parity in alcohol consumption, one of which may
be that alcohol is legal; therefore, there is no criminal disincentive
to use alcohol.

Age

As we grow older, our bodies undergo several chemical and

physical changes that alter the way we react to the world. When
it comes to alcohol and drug abuse, this means that we can
expect certain behavioral aspects to change and the trends to
vary when looking at people in different age groups. Numerous
studies have been done on the way that age affects drug and
alcohol use and vice versa, and results show that there are
definite correlations between substance abuse and the age of
the addict.

Criteria for the prospective Client

Before any client is placed in a group, readiness for particular
groups must be assessed. Techniques such as ecomaps and
resources like American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)
criteria (see the Primary Placement Considerations section of
this chapter) can be very helpful. The clinician must also
determine the clients current stage of recovery and stage of
change. Culture and ethnicity considerations also are of primary

Prospective clients and families seeking the best substance
abuse treatment option for their particular situation will find the
Beach House admissions process both informative and
reassuring. In this simple but helpful process, those seeking
drug and alcohol treatment can get the guidance they need to
make an informed decision about what plan of care will best
help them find freedom from addiction.

Transitional
There are many different terms for the continued recovery care options
available after completing intensive addiction drug rehab.
Understanding what those terms are and what the best care program is
can be difficult and daunting. Terms like sober living, halfway house,
and transitional living, are used often interchangeably but the fact is
they are all quite different and are defined by the level of accountability
the tenant needs before going to back home.
