THE PHYSICAL AND

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
OF FLY ASH CONCRETE
Name: Zakarya Ali Shamlan
Matric No: 121200093-5
Supervised by: Dr Khairul
Nizar

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Executive Summary
Fly ash is one of the most useful and commonly
used materials in the construction works.
It's a production of thermal plants
industries. Fly ash can be a partial
replacement for ordinary portland cement.
It's a great idea to use such material
because originally it's considered to be a
waste, useless, and harmful material for the
environment. Using fly ash in the concrete
mixture will reduce the environment
pollution. Moreover, it will reduce the
construction raw materials prices

Concrete Ingredients
Cement, water, fine aggregate (sand ) and
coarse aggregate.
1)
. Cement: For this project, Phoenix Portland
Composite Cement will be used. Phoenix is
the 1st Green Label Cement in Malaysia and
is suitable for all general purpose usage. It
provided many advantages such as
improving compatibility, improving
cohesiveness, improving board life, richer
mix improves surface finish, and reduces
bleeding.

2) Coarse aggregate/ stones.

( 20mm size particles 10mm)
3) Fine aggregate/ natural sands
(size particles 5mm)
4) Water:
Water, which is necessary for hydration, must be
clean and fresh and doesn't contain any
impurities since these may affect the concrete
properties. It is generally accepted that water,
which is fit for drinking, is suitable for making
concrete. Seawater should not be used in making
concrete

Focus of The Project

In this project, fly ash class (f) will be
partially replaced with cement by
percentage of 5%,10%,15,20%, &
25%. to determine workability,
density, compressive strength and
flexural strength compared to the
standard concrete mixture or normal
.mixture

Objectives of The Project

To determine physical properties of- 1
.fly ash concrete
To investigate mechanical properties- 2
.of fly ash concrete
To utilize fly ash in the construction- 3
.industries
