Love Will Find Out the Way

Download Midi File
Lesley Nelson-Burns
Over the mountains
And over the waves,
Under the fountains
And under the graves,
Under floods that are deepest,
Which Neptune obey
Over rocks which are the steepest,
Love will find out the way.
Where there is no place
For the glow-worm to lie,
Where there is no space
For receipt of a fly,
Where the gnat dares not venture,
Lest herself fast she lay,
But if Love comes, he will enter,
And will find out the way.
You may esteem him
A child for his might,
Or you may deem him
A coward from his flight.
But if she, whom Love doth honor,
Be concealed from the day
Set a thousand guards upon her,
Love will find out the way.

Some think to lose him

By having him confined
Some do suppose him,
Poor thing, to be blind;
But if ne'er so close ye wall
him,
Do the best that you may,
Blind Love, if so ye call him,
Will find out his way.
You may train the eagle
To stoop to your fist.
You may train in veigle
The Phoenix of the east.
The lioness, you may move
her
To give o'er her prey;
But you'll ne'er stop a lover;
He will find out his way.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Download Midi File 1
John Renfro Davis

There's a tear in your eye,

And I'm wondering why,
For it never should be there at all.
With such pow'r in your smile,
Sure a stone you'd beguile,
So there's never a teardrop should
fall.
When your sweet lilting laughter's
Like some fairy song,
And your eyes twinkle bright as
can be;
You should laugh all the while
And all other times smile,
And now, smile a smile for me.
When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

For your smile is a part

Of the love in your heart,
And it makes even sunshine more
bright.
Like the linnet's sweet song,
Crooning all the day long,
Comes your laughter and light.
For the springtime of life
Is the sweetest of all
There is ne'er a real care or regret;
And while springtime is ours
Throughout all of youth's hours,
Let us smile each chance we get.
When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

The History of Irish Dance

Three principal Irish dances are mentioned often
in sixteenth century writing: the Irish Hey, the
Rinnce Fada (long dance) and the Trenchmore.
One of the first references to dance is in a letter
written by Sir Henry Sydney to Queen Elizabeth I
in 1569.

Types of Irish Dance

The

four types of Irish

music and associated
dances are the jig,
reel, hornpipe, and the
set dances.

The Costumes of Irish

Dance
As

You can tell, the Dress for

every day was a lot different
from the dance dress: She is

Several versions of the same dance

were to be found in different parts of
Ireland. In this way a rich heritage of
Irish dances was assembled and
modified over the centuries. Today, jigs,
reels, hornpipes, sets, half sets, polkas
and step dances are all performed. Solo
dancing or step dancing first appeared
at the end of the eighteenth century.

Triditional songs and

folk songs

Love songs are the most common. The

themes and types prevailing are the legacy of
the Norman invaders and there adoption into
irish began at the end of the 13th century.
Aisling or dream
Labour
Blacksmiths, cruel mother, drunken knights
and fair ladies are all Scottish irish tradition.

Instruments!

Fiddle and Banjo

Flute and Tin
Whistle
(pennywhistle)
Bagpipes
Uilleann pipes

Melodeon and
concertina
Button Accordion
and piano
accordion
Harp

The fiddle is the mainstay of most

Scottish and Irish music.
The instrument is exactly the same as a
violin; fiddle is simply the term used in
traditional music.
The American five-string banjo came to
Ireland in the nineteenth century, losing
one string along the way.
It became popular in ceili bands

Flutes of one sort or another have

been played in the Celtic countries
for over a thousand years
The Tin Whistle (pennywhistle) is
the simplest and cheapest of
traditional instruments, yet not so
simple to master

Bag of air that is inflated by blow pipe

Arm pressure sends air though the reed
Range of about two octaves
The Scottish highland pipes are the loudest,
played standing, usually in pipe bands.
The chanter has eight holes and plays a
distinctive 'pipe scale'. There are two tenor
drones, tuned an octave below the chanter and
a bass drone a further octave down.
The Irish Warpipes are similar, but have only
one tenor drone.

a lot quieter Small Pipes

Variable number of keys
Up to five drones
Dont have to play continuously

The melodeon is a simple singleaction accordion.

It has ten keys.
The concertina is a small,
hexagonal accordion,.
has the keyboard is spread out on
both ends of the bellows

Most Celtic harps are small, and can

be played on the knee.
The Scottish harp is called a
clarsach,.
Most modern players use nylon or
gut strings, but some have gone back
to the original wire-strung harp, with
it's bell-like sound.

Irish Gatherings are called Ceilis

(gatherings)
Two types of Dances, set and ceili
Ceilis are easy dances involving
lots of people
Sets are more elaborate and
generally are danced by couples.
The Irish also have step dancing.

There are five major categories of

dances.
Reel, usually fast, 4/4 time
Jig, tempos vary depending on type of jig,
6/8 time
Hornpipe, 4/4 with second beat accented
strongly
Polka (Ireland), similar to European polkas
Strathspey (Scotland) - strongly accented
hornpipe, in 4/8 time.

Riverdance started as a
brief intermission piece
at Ireland's hosting of
the Eurovision Song
Contest
The show took the
perception of Irish
Dance from straightlaced and rule-bound to
modern and dramatic.
The intermission show
was thus lengthen to
become Riverdancethe show

Ceili band music is a whole sub-genre of Irish

traditional music.
The primary purpose of most of these bands is
to provide music for the dancers, not for
listeners.
The rhythms are very tight, the number of
instruments is high (to increase the volume)
Most ceili bands are local to a town, though a
few such as the Tulla Ceili Band (with which
Martin Hayes played for several years) have
reached fame, glory and many recordings.
