TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION LESSON

PLANNING: PART 2
Phase 1: Analysis Of Learning And Teaching Needs
Step One Determine relative advantage
The students will be able to demonstrate how to monitor their heart rate before, during,
and after activities.
The student will be able to explain the relationship between physical fitness and health
The students will participate in a variety of activities that develop health-related physical
fitness activities including aerobic exercise to develop cardiovascular efficiency
The students will be able to apply the dynamic changes that take place before, during, and
after activity in a PowerPoint presentation.

Step Two Resources and Skills

Step Three Objectives and Assessments
Objective: The teacher will introduce the students to the importance of
understanding the heart rate while exercising safely.
The teacher will explain the importance of knowing the dangers of over
exercising too quickly before the heart is properly conditioned for
physical activity.

Assessment: The students will be evaluated to be able to demonstrate

their knowledge of the two different methods to take their heart rate
and their ability to chart their findings using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Phase Two Planning For Integration
Step Four Integration Strategies

Day 1: Explain to the students the importance of knowing about their

heart rate and how to monitor it before engaging in physical activity.
Start by introducing two methods (radial/carotid). These will be
used to actively monitor their pulse.
Ensure that each student can locate their pulse either on their wrist
(by their radius (bone by thumb), or neck (carotid artery).
When the students are able to measure their heart rate effectively,
use a PowerPoint presentation with music so the students can
engage in the activity to increase and decrease their heart rate.
Day 2-4: For these next three days the students will check their heart
rate prior to getting out of bed get an average. (resting heart rate)
Day 5: The students record their data on a personal Excel sheet.

Step Four Integration Strategies-Continue

The first song that will be played is We Are the Champions

The students will stand and move their arms to the beat of the song.
When the song is finished, the students will take their heart rate and record it.
Using Microsoft Excel, the students will create a graph using the data recorded. They will record
resting heart rate as well as their target heart rate.

After the students get back to their resting heart rate, the teacher will play another
song called YMCA and do the same thing as the first.
The students will raise their arms in the shape of the letters, every time they say YMCA.
When the song is over, using one of the two methods taught, they will check their heart rate and
record their results on the excel spreadsheet.

The teacher will then have the students log their findings and create a graph.
Resting Heart Rate
Moderate Heart Rate
Somewhat Strong Heart Rate

Phase Three Evaluation/Revision

The students will be evaluated to be able to demonstrate

their knowledge of the two different methods to take their
heart rate and their ability to chart their findings using
Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
I will provide them with a grading rubric so that they will
know what I am looking for in their finding.
Students will only be given a limited number of things to
monitor with teacher supervision so any questions can be
addressed as they come up.
