Behavior

Heredity the process

by which various
characteristics are
transmitted to the
individual at the time of
fertilization

Chromosome
- Long colored, special shaped structures that
contains the strands of deoxyribonucleic acid
(DNA). These are found in every nucleus of the
cells in a body (46 in total)

The first 22 pairs (called autosomes)

determines traits and characteristics.
The 23rd pair (called gonosome)
determines the sex of the individual.

Deoxyribonucleic acid
(DNA)
It makes up the
chromosome and is
also the primary
genetic substance
that carries the
heredity information
It gives a special
hereditary
instruction for the
cellular development
of the organism

Genes
Located in the dark bands of a
chromosome, it carries the
hereditary traits.
Upon fertilization, the zygote
will receive half of its genes
from the father and half from
the mother (from the 23 pairs
of chromosomes of each
parent)
It is estimated that around
100,000 genes are received
from each set of chromosomes
and would then be paired.

Dominance gene traits

that are always
manifested
Recessiveness gene
traits that are manifested
depending on which gene
it was paired with.

determines traits and characteristics.
The 23rd pair (called gonosome)
determines the sex of the individual.

What are inherited?

Physical traits (eye color/shape, hair, skin tone/color etc.)

Mental traits (talents, intelligence, abnormality etc)

Environment all conditions, both inside and outside the

individual, that influences its behavior.

Intracellular
environment
consisting of all
physical and
chemical forces
within the cell
that influence the
genetic material
of the nucleus.

Internal Environment

Extracelluelar
environment
consisting of blood,
lymph, and presures
that surround the cell.

Prenatal
environment
consisting of the
amniotic fluid that
surrounds the fetus
and materials
provided and
removed from the
mothers body

External Environment

Postnatal environment
consisting the various
complex types of
stimulation that
confront the child after
birth.

Postnatal Environment

Social, educational, and cultural environment plays a role in the

training of the individual.
By means of will, inherited capacities are realized and intellectual
opportunities are utilized

Individual differences may attributed to the sex of the individual.

Genetic
Engineering
Cloning

A method of changing the

inherited characteristics of an
organism by altering its genetic
material.
