What is the purpose of

gears?

In Industries, generally gears associates to a

motor which drives the load.

Gears

are used to obtain more

speed and less torque or less speed
and more torque.

Gears

Formulas:
N = r
Since the distance traveled along each
gears circumference is the same.
N1 = N2
r1 1 = r2 2

Formulas
By Manipulating the formula
N1 = N2 = r1 2 = r2 2
N1/N2 = r1/r2 = 2/ 1 = 1

Formulas:
If we assume that the gears do not
absorb or store energy into gear 1
equals the energy out of gear 2.
T1 1 = T2 2 = N1 = N2

Formulas:
By Manipulating the formula
T2/T1 = 1/ 2 = N2/N1 = 1

Example:
Find the transfer function 2/T1 for the
system of figure below.

Given:
r1 = 6 cm
r2 = 10
cm
1 = 15
deg
T2 = 5 N
