Policies & Procedures

My Goal:
My goal as your student's 2nd grade teacher is to provide the best education possible. I will try to
provide a comfortable and stimulating environment, one in which all students will be able to
succeed. It is my goal to get to know all students, their interests, their strengths, and their unique
qualities.

Classroom Expectations:
There are so many ideas for classroom rules, and I love
and respect many of them, However I believe in the keep
it simple philosophy. My rules are BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE,
BE RESPECTFUL.

My Discipline Policy:
This is a year of growth and added responsibility. I believe it is very important for students to learn
how to account for themselves. Along with school wide procedures, I will be using a positive
reinforcement system. I will give students various BRAG TAGS for positive behavior. BRAG TAGS are
tags collected and kept throughout the year. A verbal warning/reminder will always be given. After a
verbal warning the consequence becomes teachers choice. They may walk the track 5 minutes of
recess, write an apology letter, clean up messes made.
*If these methods are not effectiveand distractions continue, the student will be removed from
the classroom and placed in a "buddy" classroom to refocus and fill out a "think time" form.
*Parents will be notified if behaviors escalate to the point of harm, or repetitiveness, which
creates an environment were others are unable to learn.
* Anything after parent notification will require intervention from school administration.

Homework:
Students will receive a reading homework page twice a month and a math
homework page once a month. Students will need to keep both pages in their
homework folder at all times and return them to school daily.

Reading Homework:
Students are expected to read each day for 20 minutes. In addition to
reading, students will complete a small language arts assignment 3 days a
week. This homework asks students to apply the reading strategies and skills
we are learning during their independent reading time. For example:
visualizing, asking questions, and key details. Students should complete one
assignment per day on a book or chapter they have read. Parent initials will be
needed for credit.

Math Homework:
Students are expected to complete 8 problems per week (2 problems per day).
These problems will be a review of some material students have already
learned and material we learn throughout the year.
Daily Homework folder:
These are folders filled with graded or completed assignments, nightly
homework and other school information. Parents have the right to be informed
as to what is happening in class, in the school, and in the district. Any
important information from the school or I will be sent home through these
folders. Please take time to read and discuss the contents with your student.

Absences:
If a student misses school, he/she will be responsible for making up the
work missed. Each day a student is absent, a while you were out folder
will be put together with details as of what was missed. The students will
have 2 days for each day they were absent to return the completed
assignments. The same policy applies to absences due to vacations. *If
you know your student will be missing school please give me 2 days prior
to gather the work they will miss.
Grading Scale:
Please see the SMART Rubric scoring guide from Davis School District as
well as the DESK standards. Rubrics with 3, 2, or 1 will be used as the
main source of assessment in my classroom.
Birthday Celebrations:
Due to health regulations, and numerous allergies, Davis School District,
Utah Health Codes, and Odyssey Administration are enforcing a no treat
policy. Instead we are asking for book donations. Donate your students
favorite book to our classroom/school library!
