AWARENESS ABOUT LEARNING


DISABILITIES AMONG TEACHERS
AND PARENTS.

DEFINITION:

(SLD)

Specific learning disability means a disorder in


one or more of the basis psychological
processes involved in understanding or in using
language spoken or written,that many manifest
itself in imperfect ability to listen , think , speak ,
read,write or to do mathematical calculations.

VARIOUS TYPES OF SPECIFIC


LEARNING DISABILITY:
Reading disability

Writing disability

Communication and comprehension


disability.

Numerical disability etc

CONDITIONS OF SLD:
SLD

includes such conditions as


perceptual handicaps ,brain injury,minimal
brain disfunction,dyslexia and
developmental aphania.

CAUSES OF SLD CHILDREN:


Organic

causes- Due to neurological


damage.
Genetic causes-Due to hyperactive
parent.
Environmental causes-Due to
consumption of drugs ,alcohol.

Disability children are like other
in
intellectual functioning
they are not mental,visual
DISABILITIES:
or hearing problems.But they have problems in
spelling ,reading,writing,arithmetic listening and
comprehension because of difficulties in their
psychological process,particularly in perception.

NEED OF AWARENESS AMONG


PARENTS AND TEACHERS:
Among parents :

Their

mothers were approached and were


assumed the interviewed individually.

mother has a positive orientation


towards child rearing.

a child can do and what he cannot do.

immediate feedback.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Government

should make effects to identify


appropriate job opportunities for the disabled.

For

example :
Efficient blind person should be
preferred for working in dark room such as
radiology dept in hospitals.

Guidance and counseling to parents and students


should be provided by the institution for
achieving better results answer the disabled
persons.

CONCLUSION:
Teacher

should take initiatives in identifying


disabled children both in rural and in urban and
direct the parents to admit in special education
schools irrespective of the conditions.
Medical allowances ,scholarships has to be
provided to support the disabled children
financially.
Society too has the responsibility to took after
their welfare.
