Further Elaboration
The Apple of Discord can be seen in the work of Homer, The Iliad.
Eris tossed in the midst of the feast of the gods at the wedding of Peleus and
Thetis as a prize of beauty, thus sparking a vanity-fueled dispute among Hera,
Athena and Aphrodite that eventually led to the Trojan War.
Hecuba had a dream that she will give birth to a torch that will burn the whole
city. Thus, they consulted the seer, Aeacus, and he told them that they have to kill
their son because of this premonition.
Aeagus got orders from King Priam to kill the boy but instead of killing him directly,
he left him in the woods of Mt. Ida and after 5 days he went back and saw the boy
unharmed.
Further Elaboration
As a man, Paris is a very handsome and strong young shepherd who
defended his flocks from robbers and this was the time he had the
name Alexander (defender of men)
His first love was a nymph, Oenone, who had the gift of prophecy.
His favorite sport was bull fighting. Thus he created an event that
whoever defeated his prized bull will receive an award.
This was how he became the judge for the most extraordinary and
difficult contest.
