History of Industrial Engineering

o

The historical period known as the industrial revolution, is the

epicenter of the birth of the Industrial Engineering as a set of techniques
aimed at applying analytical methods supplemented with rational
experiences of human organizations, highly necessary methods in a
period of economic transformation involving the face problems workshop
address. In 1760 (thousand-seven hundred-sixty), French architect Jean
Perronet contributes to the conceptual development of what is now
known as Industrial Engineering, by studying times to manufacture
construction elements and this pioneering study in determining cycles.

History of Industrial
Engineering
o

In 1793 (thousand-seven hundred ninety and three), the American inventor

Eli Whitney developed and implemented for the first time what is known as
assembly line, this being possible by the invention of interchangeable parts
production. In 1895 (thousand- eight hundred ninety and five) appears in
E.E.U.U. The first systematic presentation of which was called scientific
management, based on a publication of Frederick Taylor presented at the
American Association of Industrial Engineering. Along with Taylor, Frank Gilbert
with his studies on improving methods and motion analysis constitute the
pioneers of Industrial Engineering.

History of Industrial
Engineering
o

The techniques of Industrial Engineering began to surge in the US Earlier this

century and have now spread to most of the nations of the world, helping to
improve the standard of living and increased productivity and competitiveness
of nations. In Colombia industries producing tires and textiles were the first to
implement the Industrial Engineering, and with this, the study of this discipline
in universities. Today our industrial engineer is faced with finding solutions to
the problems caused by the agile changes in technology.
