INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES

FOR
CONCEPT DELIVERY

THE LAWS OF LOGARITHMS.

MR MUSHTAQ AHMAD
FAZAIA DEGREE COLLEGE RISALPUR

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Laws of Exponents
Exponential form
Logarithmic form

INTRODUCTION
Some questions will be asked to test the
previous knowledge of the students
Q. x6x3=..
Ans x9
Q
x6 x3=
Ans x3

INTRODUCTION
Q. How can you write 73 =343 in logarithmic form?
Ans. log7 343=3
Q. How will you express log3 x =4 in the
exponential form?
Ans. 34 =x
Q what is the value of log6?
From this question students start thinking and they
will be unable to answer this question. So I will
announce the topic and will write on the board.

THE AIM:
To teach the Students first two
laws of Logarithms
loga mn = log am + log a n
loga

m
n

= log a m log a n

DEVELOPMENT
CORE CONCEPT
LAWS OF LOGARITHMS
DLO
The students shall be able to derive the first
two laws of logarithms

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

Q. What is exponential form of log a m=x?
Ans. ax= m (i)
Q. Similarly how will you write loga n=y in the
exponential form?
Ans. ay=n . (ii)
Q. What is the product equation i & ii.
Ans. ax. ay

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

Q. What will be its simplified form?
Ans. a x+y
So, we may write
mn=ax+y
Q. How shall we express this in logarithmic
form?
Ans. logamn = x+y

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

Let us call this equation an equation (A).

It will be written on the board as
loga mn=x+y
(A)
Q. What are the values of x and y in the log
form?
Ans.
X=loga m

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

The class will be told that this has become
special relation. It is an form of law which can
be called the first law of logarithm in words it
can be stated as
The logarithm of the product of any two
numbers >0 is equal to the sum of
logarithms of each one of them
The class will be told that we have started the
study of the laws of logarithm
The topic of the lesson will be written on the
board.

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

Now again some questions will be asked

from the students.
Q. What is the exponential form of
logam=x?
Ans. ax=m.(i)
Q. How will you write logan=y in exponential
form?
Ans. ay= n(ii)
Q. What is fraction form of eq i & ii.

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

What will be its simplified form?

Ans. a x-y
So we may write
m/n = ax-y
Q. How shall we express this in the logarithmic form?
Ans. Loga m/n = x-y
Let us call this equation and equation (B) it will be
written on board as
Q.

TREATMENT AND PROCEDURE

when you put these values in equation (B) its

becomes loga m/n = loga m - loga n

It is a second law of logarithm.

BOARD SUMMARY
LAWS OF LOGARITHMS

1- logamn=loga m+ logan
let loga m=x
ax=m ( exponential form)
(i)
loga n=y
ay=n ( exponential form)
(ii)
multiply equation (i) and (ii)
m.n =ax.ay
m.n = ax+y
loga m.n =x+y
( logarithmic form)
Put the values of x and y
loga m.n = loga x- loga y
2. Let log a p=s
as=p
(exponential form)
(iii)
loga q=t
at=q (exponential form)
(iv)
multiply equation (iii) and (iv)
p.q= as.at
p.q= as+t
loga p.q = s+t
( logarithmic form)
Put the values of s and t
loga p.q = loga p-loga q

RECAPITULATION:
The lesson will be revised with help of board summary.
We write loga m=x and loga n=y exponential
form
We wrote their product
m.n = ax.ay= ax+y
From their we express the product in the log form
Thus we were able to drive the first law.
We write log a p=s and log a q = t in exponential form
We wrote the product
p.q = as.at
From their we express the product in the log form
Thus we were able to drive the second law.

On green signal from the class next step of the lesson will be
taken up.

CONSOLIDATION:
Teacher will invites students to ask questions to remove
their problems. Then, He/She will proceed ahead.
Q: Drive the law of logarithm
loga v.w = loga v+loga w
Q:

Write the following logarithms in the form

of sum or difference of Logarithms
(i)- Log(2.12x3.21)
(ii)- Log

7X 3
4

HOME WORK
Ex.3.5 (page55) Q1,Q2,Q4,Q5
Q13,Q14,Q15
drive the law of logarithm
loga v/w= loga v-loga w

CONCLUSION
Today, We have discussed the first two
Laws of logarithms.
In the next class InshAllah we will discuss
the other two laws of logarithms
