Analysis of existing

school magazines

Range of content
This magazine contains a notice board for students. In
addition to this, it contains information on illnesses (coughs
and colds), phonics (which would be a focus on a particular
topic in a lesson), an job application for a playground
peacekeeper and also getting kids to cook including links to
downloadable recipes.

Audience
This magazine would be aimed at students from the school,
teachers and governers, parents and potentially people
from the local council.
Students from age 7-11 (this looks like a junior school
magazine)
Parents from ages 28-45
Teachers from age 25-65

The masthead is in a large

font, with back to written
in bold and school written
in lower case. It uses two
different colours for text
fills, green and pink. The
back to part is written in a
sans-serif font while
school is written in a serif
font.
Some parts of the
headlines, as there is no
distinct single headline that
goes with the main image,
are using a white serif font,
with the other part using a
bold sans-serif font with a
pinky white fill and a think
pink outline.

Possibly the headline, but it

isnt clearly obvious that it
is. It uses a sans-serif font
with a yellow fill, with a
coverline below it in white.
There is also an
accompanying picture,
which makes it even more
confusing as to whether it
is the main article, as it still
doesnt seem to be related
to the mean image at all. I
picked this out as the
headline because it is a
differing fill and the font is
slightly larger, as well as
the fact that it appears to

This is the pug. This is very

obvious due to it having a
background that covers the
main image as the main
image covers the whole
page.

The main image is of a

young girl, probably a
student, smiling at the
camera. It is a close up
shot.

Range of content
This magazine contains information on the schools GCSE
results, as well as content for parents of new students
providing information on how to help children settle in and
overcome problems. In addition to this, there is clearly a
guide to teenage stress and what seems to be an interview
with a person called Turner.

Audience
This magazine would be aimed at students from the school,
teachers and governers, parents and potentially people
from the local council.
Students from age 11-16, possibly also 16-18
Parents from ages 31-65
Teachers from age 25-65

All of the front,

except the logo
and, presumably,
the main feature,
use sans-serif
fonts.

The masthead is partially

sans-serif, with a white fill
and partially a bold
handwritten style font with
a white fill. Due to the
boldness and, and the fact
that that it doesnt clash
with the main image, mean
that it is clearly visible.
A pull quote,
presumably on an
article by Turner.
There is a blue
translucent fill, with
the main image
more visible
through it in
comparison to the
pug. However, the
text on top is not
translucent and just
uses a white sansserif font.
Headline a guide
to coping with
teenage stress.
Large font, located
at the bottom of
the front cover and
has a yellow fill.
The font is very
informal, and is
handwritten.

Pug advertising 10 page free healthy cooking guide.

Green translucent fill, with the main image just about
visible through the green. In the top right so it will be
one of the first things that is seen as it is on the top of
the page.

The main image is

of a happy girl,
wearing the school
uniform. This
implies that the girl
is happy to be
going to the school
that the magazine
is about. In addition
to this, the uniform
is smart.

Information about
an article in the
magazine, in this
case, why the
school is different
to others, written
by the mayor.

Range of content
This magazine contains information on the interform
competitions held at the school, a welcome to the school,
information about exams and a pull quote, presumably from
an article about aspirations at/for the school. In addition to
this there is a final goodbye to year 11s

Audience
This magazine would be aimed at students from the school,
teachers and governers, parents and potentially people
from the local council.
Students from age 11-16, possibly also 16-18
Parents from ages 31-65
Teachers from age 25-65

The mast head uses a

large, blue filled, sans-serif
font. The blue does not
work well due to the
colours in the main image.

The main image features a

happy girl in school
uniform. This implies that
she likes the school. She is
also holding work, which
she could be pleased with.
Bad choice of fill for the
font, as it is hard to read
when it goes over the white
shirt/blouse that the girl in
the main image is wearing.
A pull quote, about
someones aspirations for
the school.

No clear headline, though

We say our final goodbyes
to the year 11s could be
related to the main image,
however this isnt made
obvious in any way. Due to
the majority of the text on
the front cover using the
same font, including the
size, it isnt obvious what
the headline, and therefore,
there are no coverlines at
all.
