Several of these circulating appetite
modulators, including ghrelin, the
only known orexigenic gut hormone,6
and a suite of anorexigenic gut
hormones, including cholecystokinin
(CCK), pancreatic polypeptide (PP),
peptide YY (PYY), glucagon-like
peptide (GLP)-1, and oxyntomodulin
(OXM), have been shown to influence
appetite in humans.

Why does fat tissue release
cytokines?
The net effect is to induce insulin
resistance (reduce fat cell
increases) and mobilize lipids
from within the adipocytes.
Also, reduce delivery of fat
(triglycerides) by LDL

Figure 2. Proposed mechanisms of the
Akt/FOXO/NF-B pathway in inflammation and
possible interventions. Age-related
enhancement of insulin activates NF-B
activity through phosphorylation of FOXO by
the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, leading to
down-regulation of MnSOD and catalase.
Thus, accumulated ROS can activate NF-B,
which is associated with molecular
inflammation that accelerates the aging
process. These activities are modulated by
CR. CAT, catalase; CR, calorie restriction;
FOXO, forkhead box class O; MnSOD,
manganese superoxide dismutase; NF-B,
nuclear factor B; PI3K, phosphoinositide 3kinase; ROS, reactive oxygen species.
