STUDENTS AT WESTERN
PHILIPPINES UNIVERSITY

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study


Every individual are influences by many
factors of buying behavior. This buying
behavior must be physical, psychological,
emotional or spiritual means of purchasing
power.

It

is

necessary

to

understand

everyones buying behavior for the stand still


purposes of the business.

Background of the Study


Brand and prices may also affect the buying
preferences of the consumer especially the
teens and young people, thus, some of them
like branded products even it will costs them
a lot while the others they most prefer the
price that is economical.

Background of the Study


Buying

behavior

defined

as

purchase

decision making pattern that is a complex


combination of needs and desires, and is
influenced by factors such as the consumers
societal role (parent, spouse, worker, etc.),
social and cultural environment and norms,
and aspirations and inhibitions.

Statement of the Problem


This study aims to determine the factors
that influence the buying behavior of
Western

Philippines

University

Puerto

Princesa Campus students. Specifically, it


seeks to answer the following:

students in terms of:
a. Age;
b. Sex;
c. Civil Status;
d. Year level;
e. Weekly allowance;
f. Ethnic Affiliation;
g. Religion;

2. What are the factors that influence the
buying behavior of students?

Hypothesis of the Study


1. There is no significant correlation between the
selected characteristics of the respondents
and the factors that influence the buying
behavior.
2. There is no significant difference between the
buying behaviors of the respondents by year
level.

Significance of the Study


The result of the study will provide the
following contributions:
To entrepreneurs, it will provide
knowledge and information regarding the
factors that influence the buying behavior of
the students when they want to have a
business near the campus which the target
markets are the students of Western
Philippines University Puerto Princesa
Campus.

Significance of the Study


To the future researchers who wishes to
undertake the same study for it can provide
additional knowledge about the factors that
influence the buying behavior, it can also used
as references and materials to provide valuable
information for the individuals who would like to
know the buying behavior of students.
To the researcher which seeks an answer
about to this problem.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study


This study will focuses on the factors that
influence the buying behavior of Western
Philippines University Puerto Princesa
Campus students in Western Philippines
University Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
The assessment will be limited only on
the College of Criminal Justice Education
students who are enrolled during the second
semester of the school year 2014 2015.

Conceptual Framework

This study will assess the factors that


influence the buying behavior of Western
Philippines University Puerto Princesa
Campus students.

Conceptual Framework
The independent variables will be the sociodemographic profile of the students that includes
age, sex, civil status, year level, weekly allowance,
ethnic affiliation, religion, fathers occupation, and
mothers occupation. The dependent variables will
be the factors that influence the buying behavior of
students.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

Locale of the Study


This study will be conducted in Western
Philippines University Puerto Princesa
Campus. An 18 hectare campus site at
Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City. It is
approximately one kilometer away from
the South National Highway and about
seven kilometers from the city proper.

Research Design
The descriptive method of research will
use in this study to make it more
comprehensive and understandable. The
survey questionnaire will use to gather the
necessary information complemented with
personal interview.

Respondents of the Study


The

College

of

Criminal

Justice

Education students in Western Philippines


University Puerto Princesa Campus will be
the respondents of this study who are
enrolled

during

the

second

school year 2014 2015.

semester

Sampling Procedure

Stratified random sampling will be used


in determining the sample size. The year
level of the criminology students will serve
as the strata.

Research Instrumentation
The
researcher
will
use
survey
questionnaire as
the
main
research
instrument. It will be complemented with
personal interview to gather the information
needed in the study. The survey questionnaire
is composed of two parts. Part I consists of
socio-demographic profile of the respondents
and part II pertains to the factors that
influence the buying behavior of students.

Research Procedure
The researcher will ask permission to the
Dean of College of Business and Management to
conduct this study. Upon approval, another
request letter will be given to the Dean of College
of Criminal Justice Education to use their
students as a respondent of this study. Then, the
researcher
will
distribute
the
survey
questionnaire to the respondents. Each of them
will be given ample time to answer the
questionnaire.

Statistical Treatment of Data


The researcher will use statistical tools
such as frequency counts, percentages
and means to interpret the data gathered.
Statistical software specifically SPSS will
also used to determine the significant
correlation and difference between
variables.
