The following in-situ scenarios

shall be injected to observe the
reactions of the guards.
The objective of this exercise is to
train and develop situational
awareness and alertness among
the security guards.

Shopping Trolley in a risky position.

1. When you see a trolley left in the middle of a walkway as an obstruction,

immediately push the trolley to a safe corner / place
2. If you see the shopper leaving the trolley in a risky position, politely
advise him/her to put it in a safer place.

Fire equipment compartment

Jammed/Obstruction.

1. Metal Scaffolding inside the compartment obstructing Fire Hose Reel. If there is
a fire emergency, the hose reel may not be accessible and becomes not useful.
2. Security should immediately highlight this issue to management and raise a
report for further action. If possible remove the obstruction immediately.

Sales outlet (under renovation) door open.

Any unoccupied outlet doors left opened may lead to criminal activities.
It is also unsightly for shoppers. Can pose danger to shoppers. Curiosity
may kill the cat.
Security shall immediately close the door by whatever means that is safe.
Raise a report immediately to the management for further action.

Unattended thing/object on the mall floor.

Unknown / Unattended / Strange objects Could be dangerous:

If object is safe, keep it in the control room for owner to claim.

Unattended Slippery floor

1. This situation may pose danger to people. Anyone can slip and get
injured.
2. Proper signage must be posted as a warning.
3. Security must immediately report to management for further action if
there is no warning sign posted..

Unlocked/Window Open car

Potential risks car may be stolen / accessories may be stolen or any

other valuable items left in the car may be stolen.
Security must immediately report the matter to the management for
further action.
Security must safely secure the car until the owner attends to it.

Haphazard Parking

This situation may lead to hamper traffic flow especially during busy period.
Security must prevent haphazard parking before it happens.
If the vehicle driver is not around leave a warning notice on the vehicles
windscreen.
Keep a record of the incident for future action.
If haphazard parking is rampant, then make recommendation to management
for vehicle clamping. Proper signage must be posted.

Unauthorized loading / unloading

This situation may lead to hamper traffic flow especially during busy period.
Security must prevent unauthorized loading/unloading before it happens.
If the vehicle driver is not around leave a warning notice on the vehicles
windscreen.
Keep a record of the incident for future action. Take photo if necessary.
Report to the management for further action. Proper signage must be
posted to warn of clamping if traffic laws are violated.

Obstacles portending safety hazard

1. Fire Hose Reel Located in public area ie. Mall walkway poses safety
hazard.
2. Potential for abuse.
3. Proper safety guard / warning signage must be placed.

Gas/Chemical Leaks

1. The above situation may pose serious danger to

public.
2. Security must immediately cordon the area. Place
appropriate warning sign.
3. Inform management for further action.

Safety Hazard

Abuse of Service Lift

Service/Passenger lifts are exclusive for peoples use.

Cannot be used as a cargo/freight lift.
Security must prevent this happening if someone abuses.
Only allow authorized things eg. Shopping trolleys by
customers.

OBSTRUCTION/BLOCKING

2. Security must immediately remove the trolley to a safe
place.
3. Advise anyone if they place any objects in front of any

Rubbish Anywhere

1. If small item security can clear it.

2. If big advise supervisor to contact cleaning
department.

1. Never allow this door in open position at anytime.

Signage Lighting

1. Always lookout for signage lighting , the lighting must be on always.

2. Look for the red indicator light at the bottom as indicated by the arrow
3. If lighting is not working, immediately report to M&E department for remedi
