Introduction
A resort is where people head to relax their souls from the
busyness of this life
In this case study we will be presenting two case studies
as well as some environmental issues that'll present
solutions thatll help us later with our designs

Solar Energy

Solar power is energy from the sun that is converted into

thermal (passive solar) or electrical (active solar) energy. Solar
energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy
source available
Passive solar building will be efficient because of its
design, the design is based off the movement and the
available energy of the sun, as well as the materials
used to construct it.
(Uses sunlight to heat something directly)

Active solar use sun energy but with additional

mechanical, it is called active solar because it needs
some electrical input for their system to function.
(Requires collectors to gather solar energy)

In

design we have to take consideration of:

Good orientation reduces the need for
auxiliary heating and cooling and
improves solar access to panels for
solar photovoltaics and hot water.

Passive Solar Heating

In passive solar building design, building components are made to
collect, store, and distribute solar energy in the form of heat in the
winter
and reject

Passive

heating
expensive way to heat your home.

There are two primary element that are required in

passive heating
1.South facing glass

2. Thermal mass (to absorb, store, and distribute h

three approaches to passive

systems :2. Indirect Gain

1. Direct Gain

sunlight enters the

house through southfacing windows during
the day allowing them
to absorb heat. As the
room cools during the
night, the thermal
mass releases heat
into the house.

3. Isolated Gain

attempts
to control solar
radiation reaching an area
adjacent but not part of the
living space. Heat enters
the building through
windows and is captured
and stored in thermal mass
and slowly transmitted
indirectly to the building
through conduction and
convection

Isolated gain involves utilizing solar

energy to passively move heat from or to
the living space using a fluid,

Passive Solar Water Heating

Solar water heating (SWH) is the
conversion of sunlight into
renewable energy for water heating
using a solar thermal collector.

1. Close Coupled System:A "close-coupled" SWH system the

storage tank is horizontally mounted
immediately above the solar collectors on
the roof. No pumping is required.

2. Pump Circulated System:The system uses a tank that acts as both

storage and solar collector. Batch heaters
are basically thin rectilinear tanks with a
glass side facing the position of the sun at
noon.
7

Passive Solar Lighting

Passive solar lighting techniques
enhance taking advantage of natural
illumination for interiors, and so reduce
reliance on artificial lighting systems.

This can be achieved by careful building

design, orientation, and placement of
window sections to collect light. Other
creative solutions involve the use of
reflecting surfaces to admit daylight
into the interior of a building.

Active Solar Energy

Active solar energy uses an active electrical device
to power the solar energy system.Because of this
requirement, the system requires extra power,
besides the sun.
The efficiency of the solar
panels will be affected by
their orientation

10

Active Solar Water Heating

Active solar heating systems use a
substance to collect and transfer the
heat in the solar collector.
Active direct systems: Open Loop
Active

supply
directly. Circulation of water
through the solar collector is
accomplished through a
small circulation pump (often
powered by a solar electric
module) mounted on a solar
storage tank.

Active indirect systems: Closed Loop Ac

Systems

employ heat exchangers that

circulate heat exchange fluids
through the panels and feed
pipes. The term closed-loop
refers to the solar exchange
fluid being closed-off from the
external atmosphere or isolated
from the potable water. In a
closed-loop system the heated
solar fluid is pumped through
the solar collectors.

11

Active Solar Power

solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity,
either directly using photovoltaics (PV)
converts light into electric current
using
the solarsolar
cells.
or indirectly using
concentrated
power
(CSP) uses lenses to focus a large area of
sunlight into a small beam.

Fly into Dubai then take a choice of arrival:-.

o Drive from Dubai airport in a 120-minuate drive.
o Soar in a seaplane to the resort is another choice that takes 30
minutes.
o Take a Speedboat from Dibba Port to the mini-marina in 15
minutes after driving there.
o Paraglide into the resort as an exhilarating choice.
