In order to illustrate the use of student presentations
and debates in english language teaching. In student
presentations, there are six steps presented earlier
to develop student presentations :
Identify
suitable
topics

Research
the topic
area.

Organize
and outline
key points.

Write
argumentati
ve essays.

Give oral
presentation
s based on
essays.

Review and
reflect.

In Debate, there are four steps may be used when


including a longer and more formal debate task in
the classroom :

Identify suitable topics.


Research both sides of the
issue.
Develop arguments and
counter-arguments.
Debate.

There are several clear advantages


to using public speaking tasks in
ELT :
Public speaking provides opportunities to
practice all four language skills.
Public speaking supports development of
critical thinking skills.
Public speaking promotes learning.

Summary
Public speaking tasks are an easy way to
enhance language learning. As students
participate in lively presentations and
debates, they develop increased motivation
and engagement with the materials. Public
speaking tasks empower students by
allowing them to take charge of their own
learning
and
to
communicate
their
knowledge to others in authentic ways
