MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
DEFINITION
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
as per HEINEMANN is
defined as the application of
principles of natural, physical
and biological science to the
performance of laboratory
procedures which aid in the
diagnosis and treatment of
diseases

IMPORTANCE OF MEDICAL
TECHNOLOGY

Increases productivity and competence

With the advancement of electronic documentation,
medical records are more readily available and accurate;
reducing the number of medication errors
Increases the quality of care
With every improvement in treatment and diagnosis of
disease, the better care. With new medications, and devices
to aide in the management of disease, people are able to
live longer and more comfortable
Promotes independence
With the use of technology devices to help manage and
control disease, people are able to monitor their condition
at home. Diabetics glucometers permit the self testing of
blood glucose levels on a daily basis

IMPORTANCE OF MEDICAL
TECHNOLOGY

Faster recovery
Non invasive surgeries are lower risk and require less
hospitalization. With the help of cameras, surgeons are
able to make small incisions that heal faster
Reduces hospital stays
Medical technologies have reduced the amount of time
patients need to be hospitalized, freeing up hospital
beds and reduce cost
Higher economy
With every advancement in healthcare, there are more
high quality jobs created and investment opportunities

ADVANCED MEDICAL
TECHNOLOGY

Medical Treatment of diseases like

Cancer, HIV (Human Immune Virus),
Heart Attacks', Sensitivity
(hypersensitivity reactions),
Electronic health records
Wireless communication among
doctors & patients
Health apps/sensors(blood-pressure &
temperature)
Bionic limbs system
Oral vaccine (prevents the disease)

DIFFERENT TYPES OF
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
Heart pacemaker: This chest x-ray shows an artificial pacemaker that
has been inserted beneath the skin of the chest. Pacemakers are given
to people whose hearts have a defective electrical system. The
pacemaker delivers electrical signals to the heart via wire these
signals trigger contractions of the heart muscle and maintain a regular
heart beat
3D MRI scan: It is an advanced imaging technique. The body part to
be examined is placed inside a powerful magnet, & harmless radio
waves are released towards it. A computer then builds an image by
analyzing the pattern of radio waves returned from the part.
Robotic Check-Ups: Telemedicine is well established as a tool for
triage & assessment in emergencies, but new medical robots go one
step further they can now patrol hospital hallways on more routine
rounds, check the patients in different rooms & managing their
individual charts and vital signs without direct human intervention.

WORK OF A MEDICAL
LABORATORY TECHNICIANS

They can be called

as Medical
detectives
Identify
microorganisms and
analyze cells
causing infection
and disease

WORK OF A MEDICAL
LABORATORY TECHNICIANS

Operate complex apparatus,

instrument and machines
Use standards and control to
improve the reliability of
laboratory results
Examination of
samples(blood(RBC, WBC,
PLATELATES, Erythropoietin,)
& urine(colour, epithelial cells,
Ecoli ....etc;))

ADVANTAGES OF MEDICAL
TECHNOLOGY

Vaccines have been developed to provide immunity to

disease and infections
Cheaper treatment to the people in case of some
common diseases, and therefore make good health
Bionic limbs engineers have designed and developed
prosthetic robotic human parts that mimic limbs such as
legs, arms, hands, feet and fingers
By integrating computer technology into the prosthetic
design, these parts can self adjust and grip
It has cured disabilities that couldnt be cured before
Also promotes implementation of technology

DISADVANTAGES OF
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

Technology is not reliable and may leads to adverse effects

Technology leads to job less ness
Health cure costs continue to rise reflecting the adoption of
each new technology causing a growing arrest to the access of
certain treatments
We are paying tax for this medical technology
Security and privacy: when hospitals transfer information
about a patients to computer; the technology can be vulnerable
to outside source when using the internet
Potential to have a catastrophic program error or failure which
can result in a waste of money and time for all involved
Power consumption is more & in case of power off these all
technology is of no use

Medical technology plays

an important role in the
health of each and every
individual person
Since new medical entity
discoveries,
advancements, new
techniques are helping in
the treatment of many
illnesses/diseases
Now a days without
medication their in no life
in few serious cases
